You need to be insured. There are different variations to this but the bottom line is that you need an insurance full stop.

I dont know why these loosers are giving me thumbs down for. You need an insurance weather you're on your dads, or mums or whatever that's an insurance. You can't just get the car and drive otherwise noone would pay thousands of pounds a year. |

If you don't live in the same household and don't have regular access to the car, your not excluded from the policy and you have your dads permission to drive the car then you will be covered.
Remember if you do have regular access to the car you will need to be added to his policy or there could be problems.
Hoped I've helped. |

If you are under 18, and live at home at the same address, you need to be on his insurance. If not, you don't. |

You should check with your insurance company but if you have fully comprehensive insurance of your own, you are usually covered to drive other vehicles whether lent or hired.
If you do not own a car yourself and are not insured, you are breaking the law by driving a vehicle without insurance.
It's not a big deal to get put on your Dad's insurance - usually an admin fee of around £20. You could give the cash to your Dad and he just makes a phone call to his insurance company - they update the database and send out a new insurance certificate and he gets debited the admin fee. |

Yes, it will serve as your protection if accidents happen and also to avoid any complications at the end. You can try to visit cheap car insurance site like this http://www.nightbirdssolutions.com for your reference and additional information about car insurance. |

Yes, Stupid. If you are not on his insurance, and something happens, YOU will get sued for whatever accident damage that is done. Of course you will not have the money to pay for it, so you will be garnished forever, (except for minimum wage) and will therefore never be able to support a family. She has the right to leave you!
also you will be ticketed for not having your own insurance, so your insurance (if and when you ever get any) will be sky high-er than it is now.
Get a Job. Get a cheap car that you like, Get insurance from a company that has an Agent (like state Farm) so you can make monthly payments.
Drive responsibly so your insurance rate will get lower each year. Ignore White-Trash movies like "The Fast and Furious" because they will just get you into trouble. |

Unless your over 25 you need to be a named driver on your dad's insurance, If under 25 then even if you have fully comp insurance on your own car you cannot drive another car you do not own with your insurance. I know it's a bit ageist but hey we're dealing with insurance companies here and they are renowned for finding loopholes and get out clauses to stop your insurance cover paying out if you have an accident. this info is based on UK residence |

all insurance polices are different, they are all full of loop holes to con the general public! if your not sure phone them up, a call would keep you legal and cheaper than a fine and penalty points. |

As long as the car is insured you can drive it on occasion. If you're going to drive it regularly then she should probably add you to her policy. |

And she is quite right! You MUST NOT use a motor vehicle on the road unless there is an insurance policy covering your use of that vehicle.
You are:
a) risking being caught, fined and your father's car being crushed.
b)risking having an accident and having to pay several (tens of) thousands of pounds to the person who you injured or whose car you damaged.

For GODS SAKE IF YOU ARE NOT AN INSURANCE BROKER/SPECIALIST STOP MAKING SUCH BLOODY STUPID COMMENTS ABOUT THINGS YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

it's not illegal as long as your dad has insurance on the car, but depending on the specifics of his poilcy, his insurance may or may not cover you if you're in an accident in the car. with most full coverage policies you would be covered. also, your insurance may cover you in any car you drive. check out the details of both policies. that is assuming that you're in the u.s., i have no idea outside of this country. |

If you have fully comp insurance of your own for your own car it is my understanding you can drive any car 3rd party only. Not sure if that is specific to my policy though. |

You have to be a named driver or he needs to add you for the day you borrow it. Should you have an accident, you will not be insured . |
