So I am going to buy this jeep tomorrow from a dealership in town. Do I need to have insurance on that vehicle before I am allowed to drive it off the lot? Do I buy that right there at the dealership before we drive away? Will I need to pay for the insurance right then and there?

If you are in the US and already have a car, you have a short time in which the coverage is extended to this car, usually 30 days. If you don't have another vehicle, you will have to buy insurance before you leave the lot. Normally, this has to be done through an insurance agent; most dealers would not have that kind of insurance available, only credit life or credit disability. |

Yes, they will not let you leave without insurance. Usually the dealer faxes the insurance company the purchase agreement and then the insurance company faxes the back the liability card. As far as payment, is this a company that you already have a policy with? If so usually the just add the vehicle and if you pay monthly you pay then. If it is a new company you are dealing with you usually need to go in and pay 2 months up front. I deal with State Farm and that is what I had to do 10 years ago when I started dealing with them. |
