Do you really need driving lessons?

Please punctuate properly folks.

If your "private-practice is with a good driver who can take their time to educate you in all their best habits, then fine, you don't really need a "professional" teacher. Witness a young relative of mine, whos' mother had paid for 45 lessons over 5 months with a nationally-recognised driving school (AA!) - he then took his test, which listed FOURTEEN serious errors.
I bought him a little Fiesta, listed him as a named-driver on my insurance, took him out most evenings and weekends, (I was horrified at how badly he was driving!) and took him right back to basics. When I was happy with his driving, after almost four months, he took a test and passed it. He then took his Pass-Plus and now is on his way to two claim-free years.
I have helped others polish their driving before their tests before, I personally have 25 years of driving, all accident-free, mostly-higher than-average mileages, and a clean licence. And a good bit of track-time!

You will only become good at most things with lots of practice. Driving is no different.

Please do us all a favor and get lessons. Don't be one of those idiot kids that think they know everything who speed down the road, don't use signals or mirrors, talk on the phone, read, and do other things while driving.

In Norway or Sweden I've forgot which or maybe Finland, oh well it doesn't really matter, it takes about 3 years of driving lessons before you can get your driving license, you even need to know how to power slide!

From what I see daily on the road, the answer is " Yes !" From what I have seen in class work in academia, one might still get some poor results.Unfortunately, the most overused words in the Language are " common sense" and the least indulged is " practice "

In the US you are able to get your license about 6 months sooner by completing a driving course and some insurance companies give you a lower rate for it too. You also learn some things which will take you many years of experience to learn on your own.
