Do you think that getting car insurance should be optional?

Move to New Hampshire, We're one of the only....if not the only states that allows car insurance to be optional. Personally I think it should be optional because its your option to be screwed or to have a back up plan after being an an accident. That said only idiots would chose to drive without at least minimum insurance, or alot of money in the bank just to make sure that you will be ok if something ever does happen. Car accidents are common, you should be prepared....but it should be your own choice on how prepared you are. As far as the toll tax law goes, your right. Well good luck, and have a nice day :]

I think it is essential to have car insurance.
These idiots that drive without it and then have accidents involving innocent folk that DO have insurance make my blood boil.
My friend had a brand new car that was hit my an uninsured driver and she got nothing!!!!
Anyone that drives without it and has an accident should be put behind bars and the key thrown away!!!!!

Car insurance should be mandatory.
You can do a lot of damage to other people and their property with a car - if you don't have insurance, how will you pay for the damage?

Driving is a privilege, not a right, and with that privilege comes certain responsibilities.

I wish you could enjoy the feeling of paying your deductible amount just to get your car fixed when it was parked and you weren't even near it.

It's as others have said in your answers, you don't have to have insurance, just post the financial bond required and be self insured.

No it should stay as it is with all vehicles needing at least 3rd party liability. I'd go as far as needing a sticker on the windscreen with the name of the insurer and expiry date. And i'd make it mandatory for cyclists too- thay are a real liability lol

If you were involved in an accident and it was not your fault and they didn't have insurance as they opted not to. How would you get them to pay for the damages if they argue it was not their fault and blame you.

You *do* have a choice in the matter. In most states you don't need to have insurance if you have a bond in place that would cover the minimum required by the state in case of an accident. It's usually a mandatory financial responsibility law, not a mandatory insurance law. So if you have the assets to do that, you never have to deal with an insurance company. Many large corporations and state owned facilitates are self insured.

Insurance is fraudulent! People with low intelligence and conditioning from society fall prey to such system! The answer is really larger than it seem. There are ways to prevent accidents from happening through technology. Such technologies are being suppressed. Getting in an accident is a dare while driving. If insurance is going to be required .. make a better system that doesn't rip people off!
