I recently charged my college tuition on my credit card. I owe $1,000 and am paying it off as soon as I can. I have never missed a payment and have always paid more than the minimum. I am hoping to have it paid off in full by May.
I have had car insurance with Geico since 2006. I am going to pay my car insurance now, since it's due sometime this month. My question is, are they going to do a credit check and see how my credit is? Can they raise my rates? I'm not sure if my paying off my card qualifies for "bad credit", but could I get whacked for that?

Does it matter if my mom pays for my insurance? I am the only one on the account, but its her credit card that pays for it, not mine. And we pay up front and in full. I got the bill for the insurance and it hasn't changed since the last one, so I'm assuming they haven't checked?

Actually, "bad credit" is something that more and more insurance companies look at when determining your rates. It seems that poor credit history suggests that you may be a riskier customer to insure.
If you already have insurance with GEICO, I think it's unlikely to affect your current rates. Rate increases are usually heavily regulated, and unless you've had a recent accident, or your insurance company is raising rates across the boards, you probably have nothing to worry about. |

Some insurance agencies do check your credit, and poor credit can add to the risk factor, which will cause higher rates. For the most part though the check is to see if they will let you pay monthly, or insist on the full amount up front. |

If your a current customer with them and keep your payments on time, you should be fine.
