Does a car need insurance and MOT to be kept on a public road?

My car has tax, but no insurance and MOT. Im not driving it, i just need to store it there as I have no off street parking, is this ok?

Jim
You need the lot, and if you do take it off the road you must complete a form telling the authorities the car exists but that it is being kept off the road (SORN).
The law assumes if the car is on the road you might drive it, so you must comply with ALL legal requirements - road tax, MOT and at least third party insurance.

The police can very quickly check their database to find out that you don't have insurance or MOT, so you really need to get them both or a place to keep it off the road to avoid a nasty fixed penalty notice.

No Get it off the road... What are you going to do with it? Best scrap it and get another one.

it runs the risk of being crushed if it doesn't

?
yes it does

Nope, not ok... You have to have the MOTand tax to park on the road, otherwise they can fine you.

it really should be insured if it gets hit you cant claim i think all cars have to be taxed tested and insured to be on a public road weather driving or not

in the uk yes you need tax insurance and an mot to keep a car on a public highway

Certainly it does!!! In order to be kept on the public highway a car must be taxed, have an MOT and be insured.

yes it needs tax, insurance ans mot if it's kept on the public highway, this it to protect other road users as well as yourself in case of accidents.

Yes - I reckon it does.

yes it does - your tax is void without MOT and insurance. Parking off street is illegal but as you had road tax you might get away with it.

must have all on public road, or find private parking.
a friends drive maybe.

It needs to be taxed, MOT'd and insured to be on a public road otherwise it will be seized, the only way would be to show it as SORN but it needs to be off road like on a driveway etc

I have no off street parking...

I have my car Taxed and it is parked up when no MOT is on it, it as far as I am aware is not illegal to have a car with no MOT, it means that you have to have one to use the road, as the car is not being used but taxed, I cant see any issue.

To Tax a car you need an MOT and Insurance so if your Tax disc is in order, as far as legal things go, thay IMHO cant say 'Jack Schitt' to you.

I have the added issue of an residents parking permit for which I have to a prove residence, ownership, insurance, mot and if its not taxed... you get £80 fines, they then stick it in a council pound and charge £100 a day until you pay up or they destroy the car and then charge you £1,500 for its disposal and then chace you for the storage fees also....

Basically, dont live in Nottingham, Robin who? Robin Us more like. So think yourself lucky all you will face is a fine and your car crushed, here thay take the living *iss out of you, charge you for it and then crush your car.

if its not on yellow lines or blocking access car tax would be enough.insurance is used to protect you and others while driving, mot is there to say the car is road worthy or it's fit to drive. so if your car is parked and nobody is driving it mot does not matter ,no insurance would mean you would foot the bill for any damage caused to it.
