Does buying a salvage title vehicle affect the price of insuring the vehicle?

It will affect the coverage they're likely to put on it and may affect the price. Best way to find out is to call your insurance company and ask. Most are really good about that. I have Statefarm and I call them with all sorts of questions and they've always been wonderfully helpful.

Salvage title means the car sustained damage, doesn't matter how, that exceeded the value at the time it occurred. It may have been nothing but cosmetic damage, but if the owner put in an insurance claim and the damage exceeded the car's value it would have been totalled.

Problem about buying totalled cars is you don't know exactly what happened to it. Just because they SAY it was cosmetic damage doesn't mean there wasn't frame damage to it as well. That's what you have to be worried about. Sometimes they are fixed up to look great, but if the work wasn't done well the car won't hold up well in an accident and you may end up sustaining greater injuries as a result.

If the airbag deployed is an even bigger issue. It's difficult to determine if it has a functional airbag without dismantling the steering assembly (that I'm aware of) and then that can cause problems all unto itself. Even repackaged airbags are not guaranteed to deploy and you won't know until you need it.

Is it a good enough price to justify buying a vehicle with a salvage title? Generally it's not recommended to do so and most people with knowledge on the topic will tell you to steer clear. Not because a salvaged car cannot be a good car. Many certainly can- but the problem is you don't really have a way to KNOW for certain what you're getting.

If your car has a salvage title, insurance companies will only do liability and wont let you get full coverage

Yeah it does affect.. The fact that it was "salvaged" means it's got more problems than just cosmetic damages. Which is why most insurance co. will only issue "liability" on it.. some companys will not even insure you at all!

it may increase slighylt if there are only cosmetic damages. Some companies will inspect the vehicle before they insure it so they will take everything into consideration

It doesn't really affect the price of the insurance, but it will affect the price you will be paid if your car is ever totaled in a collision (3/4 of the price they would pay for a non-salvaged title, I think).

It is not true that you cannot insure full coverage on a salvage titled. BOTH our vehicles are salvage and both have full coverage through State Farm. It does not affect the rates either.
