Does my rate increase if I make a comprehensive claim?

While driving, my driver side door was damaged by an unidentified object. If I file a claim for this, will my rate increase?

Well they won't pay for unidentified flying objects because they are classified as objects falling from space.

It all depends on how many claims you have already made. One claim should not hurt you though.

Probably not. Sometimes rates will increase due to frenquency so if you have filed a bunch of comp claims be prepared.

No, you will not be penalized for making a claim. That is like playing a double edge sort you pay to have and you pay to use. Only if you were deamed at fault for the damage would your rate increase and that damage amount would have to be above a threshold to be chargeable. Now if you make too many claims then you can be NON-RENEWED from your policy.

It shouldn't. When people come in for quotes and I see comp claims on their record, I don't have to charge for them. (rate up their insurance) So you should be fine. But as always, check with your agent first.

Not necessarily, did you tell them it was unidentified?

If not, say it was an animal of some sort because those are "acts of nature" and may be classified as less severe according to your insurance company.

If you have other claims and the damage isn't too bad you may want to just pay out of pocket because making the claim will add to your history and that will certainly have a negative effect on your rates.

No as comp claims are typically not at fault, your insurance should not go up. You just end up paying your deductible.
