It all depends on whether you get liability insurance only or full coverage. If you finance the car you will need full coverage. Thieves focus on desirable cars. The sweeter it is, the more likely it will get stolen; therefor higher premiums for full coverage. The same goes for make and model. A Corvette is more likely to get stolen than an Escort. Some cars are more likely to get into an accident because of color. Black cars are wrecked more often than any other color because they are harder to see, especially in twilight hours. I always suggest to only spend as much for a car as you can pay cash for. Between interest rates and the extra you have to spend for full coverage takes a bite out of your pay check. Unscrupulous car dealers will try to put you into a situation where a year after buying (financing), you owe more than the car is worth. this is called being upside down in your loan. Then they will offer to put you into a newer car and roll the amount you owe from your old car into the new loan which puts you WAY upside down. It's a trap to avoid.
Pay cash for a non-flashy, economical car, get liability only. |

The colour of your car have nothing to do with insurance but

well, the easiest way is to contact your insurance agent and ask.
I have not been asked in over 15 years what color my car is for my insurance, just what it is, what safety features it has, the primary options (engine, transmission, etc), mileage and where it is garaged.
I believe that it is a total myth. |

Total urban legend. Been in the insurance industry for over 20 years and I assure you that color has NO effect on rates at all.
To pami: the color of a vehicle is NOT in the V.I.N.
To Ray K: you are totally clueless.
To V: you also, are clueless.
To virgo725: wrong, dummy. |

I'd say if you are getting comprehensive insurance and your paint is metallic then it'll cost more because to respray metallic simply costs more than to respray a flat paint car. |

Insurance doesn't even ASK what color your car is, because it doesn't make a bit of difference to them. It's just Urban Legend that "red cars cost more to insure."
In fact, that's the first question on the myth vs reality test at http://www.progressive.com/teens/myth_reality.aspx?QuizName=MythReality |

red car...or bright colors that attract attention are more likely to get pulled over because your eyes are dawn too it so the rate is higher on these types of cars...depends on insurance company also |

colour doesn't effect insurance rates.
I agree that it is more likely your car might be stolen, or greater chance of getting into an accident or getting a ticket but an insurance company rates come from the veh itself and the vin number. Insurance do get there veh ratings from number of accidents/ tickets the car has, and if that car usually only sells in bright colours there is a good chance that car would be more expensive for insurance but your insurance will not go up just because you have a red car |

I have heard this before, and it makes sense. red cars are the most likely to get pulled over. not because they are the most likely to speed, but because they are the most likely to get caught.
i honestly don't know if its true or not, but to all those who are saying that the insurance doesn't ask what color... they get the VIN number and that information is tracked with that number, and also registration. |

white cars give you a better insurance rate. also insurance rates depend on the types of cars people own |
