Does your insurance premium go up if your car gets keyed or you are in a accident that is not your fault?

If your car was keyed that is a comprehensive claim, and no your insurance will not be surcharged. A not at fault accident will not be surcharged either

Usually, your insurance doesn't go up for comprehensive claims or claims not involving a moving violation.

However, any time you file a claim, your run the risk of your policy being converted or cancelled.

I've been in both situations, and i've found that if an insurance company wants to drop you over holding up their end of an agreement, it's time to find another insurance company.

If you have a claim, use the insurance for what it was meant for and keep some other companies in mind just in case the insurance company gets ugly.

If you file a claim for the "key job" your rates will probably go up.

If you are not at-fault for an accident it shouldn't affect your rates unless you are in a no-fault state.

If you are in a accudent that was not your fault, why would you go through your insurance? you would go through theirs.

They shouldn't go up unless the claim is for a large amount. Depending on where you live, a lot of insurance companies will "look past" the first claim or two and only increase your premium slightly, but check with your insurance agent. If the accident is not your fault (the officer cites the other driver) then there should be no adverse effect on your driving record. If it isn't your fault, you shouldn't have to pay.

On the other hand, a claims adjuster will be very wary about issuing you a check for getting your car keyed. If you think about it it makes sense--no one keys a car in front of a lot of people--and they are seldom caught by the cops. To the adjuster, it is just as likely that you did it and are looking for a free paint job.

So--unless you have definitive proof that you are not to blame, don't make a claim. It will be cheaper in the long run to have the car painted yourself than to file a claim anyway.

If your file a claim, than your priemiums will increase, If it isn't your fault, they won't increase very much, but if it is your fault they will sky rocket
