Driving Licence Photocard Renewal & Points Removal?

My Driving Licence photocard has to be renewed in June (the photo is nearly 10 years old). I also have three points on the licence which have expired (from a speeding ticket six years ago) which could have been removed two years ago, but I didn't want to have to pay £17.50 then only to pay another £17.50 this year to get the photo changed.
Can anyone confirm whether making the photocard renewal application will also automatically result in a new licence with these old points removed, or whether I have to fill out the whole D1 form instead?

No, they won't automatically remove the expired points.
You will have to send in a D1 form to get them removed, it's the photocard that's changing, not the counterpart in the first place.
I wouldn't do what Jed Slade said, because chances are they would send you a letter and D1 form explaining what to do. |

The D1 form will allow the authorities to realise that the license requires updating and the charge of 17.50 will be applied for the admin work (printing a new form from a template that indicates you are now points free)
So in short, yes you are required to fill out the form.

i am not 100% sure, but if you are changing your license picture you are in essence being issued a new license, so i guess there is no reason why the points wouldn't be removed.
I don't know if they send out a new paper counterpart when you renew it. |

Just send a covering letter with it pointing out that those details are now no longer applicable,just to make sure.THE DETAILS SHOULD NOT BE LEFT ON IN THIS CASE BUT MISTAKES HAPPEN,HENCE SENDING THE LETTER TO MAKE SURE.THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR LEAVING THE DETAILS OFF THE NEW LICENCE. |
