Driving away with the gas pump?

3 days ago my boyfriend was being sweet and filling my car with gas and washing the windows. He drove away with the gas pump still in the car. He only got 3 feet and went in to see the attendant right away. One lady came out and siad it was fine, it just snaps back on. He was told the same thing inside. However, they took his information. They called 3 days later and asked if he would be paying for the damages or if my insurance was going to cover it... I feel that since they waited 3 days to call, they are trying to scam me.He hasnt called back yet... What should I do??

I didnt htink about calling the police because they said we were all set.

You're probably not being scammed. What has probably happened is that the threaded end of the hose was damaged when it was pulled loose. You or your insurance will have to pay the damages and expect the bill to be around $200. Just to be on the safe side, insist on the damaged parts. Although you won't have a use for them, you can throw them away. If you're refused the broken parts, it starts to look a little suspicious.

3 days isn't long. Perfectly reasonable.

Now as to whether there is a legitimate claim, that's a different question.

I worked pumping gas in nj and ive had a few people drive off with the pump not once had anbody broken the line it is made to come off like the cord on the xbox controller but who knows make the guy prove it broke

ok i had a claim where someone drove off with the gas pump and we paid for the damages;

your insurance company will investigate and determine the amount owed for the damages; they will pay that amount, no more or no less; that is their job;

the fact that they called 3 days later does not matter; most likely the lady inside had no clue on what to do, other than take his info; they then probably subsequently called management who told them to contact your boyfriend;

but your insurance company will investigate and verify if the damages were all caused by your boyfriend; the gas station will have to validate info to them for them to pay;

call your insurance company and they will then contact your boyfriend of the details etc; after they investigate and determine the correct amt of damages, they will then pay; that is what liability insurance is for;

I would expect that they ask you to pay because of a damage on their property. The reason for the delayed call may simply be the lack of staff or order of importance of issues on the "to do list." I would say call the people back and find out what is the next step. It would be safer to call then to not call and end up with a bigger fine. They already have your information so they can easily find you.
