Where I live, you can get your permit at 14, and you liscense at 18. I am 14 and I think I am about ready to go take the test. My question is: don't you have 6 monthes after you get it to take the DL test, but that can be renewed once? How will that work since I am would not be old enough to get a liscence? I hope I made myself clear. Thanks!

I believe the answer to your question is on Page 7 of the Arkansas Driver Handbook. If you don't have a copy you can find it on line.
You may apply for an "Instruction Permit" when you are 14. This means you must pass a knowledge and vision test, and once you have it you can practice driving with an adult over 21 in the car with you. The "Instruction Permit" is good for 6 months, and can be renewed once .
Then you may apply for a "Learners License". It is good until you turn 16. This gives you time to study the Driver Handbook, learn the rules of the road, continue to practice driving with an adult over 21 in the car with you, and complete and required driver education programs.
At 16 you may apply for an "Intermediate License". You can take the driving road test, and can now drive by yourself, but with certain restrictions.
At 18 you can get the "Class "D" (adult) unrestricted license. You're now legally a grown up.
For all of the various permits and licenses you may not have had an at fault accident of serious traffic violation for 6 months prior to applying. Good Luck! |
