Driving without car tax??

Driving without car tax??

Hello!
I've just bought a new car (well, second hand new car) and have (today) switched the logbook and insurance over,so thats all covered.

However, I've just come to get tax and it wont let me unless I have either the new insurance documents (so I can buy at a post office) or the 'document reference number' on the front of the new logbook (so I can buy online), which obviously I dont have yet as British post aint anywhere near that good!

What do I do? Usually I wouldn't mind waiting, its only a few days after all, but I've already arranged to pick my boyfriend up from the airport later tonight...it was something I'd planned weeks and weeks ago, before I realised I'd have to get a new car...now I'm completely lost as to what to do...

Please help! :) Limpet xx

You're at risk of prosecution if you drive it. The post office could have sent your log book off and you could have picked a temporary cover note up from your insurance.

The DVLA are very strict now and you will be fined if you get caught.

You won't get points on your license because it's an excise
offence not motoring,

But under new laws they have greater power to impound your car aswell.
Or even crush it.

police around airports are very hot nowdays and your car will almost definitley come up as un-taxed on their ANPR system!!!
and you will get a tug the copper might be ok if you show him recipt for car etc
you must have insurance though!!!!!

Don't drive it without the tax, its just not wrth it...and bear in mind, most airports have plenty of police on duty, and theres just a chance that your car would be spotted! Is it really worth the price of a fine, when a taxi would probably be much cheaper?

no tax then no insurance and airport police very hot

Have a friend pick up the boyfriend, or loan you the car. You can't drive yours without the chance of being ticketed.

you are driving illegal with no tax and your insurance could be void if you had an accident so dont do it it's against the law phone swansea for more advice

I wouldnt chance it these days, as all patrol vehicle have number plate recognition software installed. That gives the police the info if your car is MOTed, Taxed or insured.

Get a taxi, it would probably cost you less than the fine/points or possible ban.

Do not drive the new car. A member of my family told us today that a man he works with had no tax. was stopped by police and they impounded the car from him NEW RULES dont be silly and drive that car until you have tax.

You cant drive it without tax, you will be fined, towed away, or even worse crushed!

raynightporter
do`t drive it the cops all have a cam in car that reads number plate and they can tell if you do`t have tax , just let your B/F know you can`t pick him up and let him get taxi if he loves you he will understand , if you do drive it it`ll be a £80 fine and they will take your car

if you can get to your local DLA office where they deal with the log books and tax and explain the situation to them they will be able to see your aplication for the new log book on their computers and will then allow you to but the tax from them while your there thats what my sis did anyway

the tax office will know that your vehicle is insured as this is shared data , you can get a cover note most insurance companys are prompt normally following day with docs / cover note , road tax although illegal to use vehicle on the road without tax ,for say you was pulled over for no tax , although not a criminal offence as such it would be noted and tax office notified , but when you do get your tax disc back date it / or it would be dated to the 1 st of the month any way and technically you would have a tax disc but could get done for failing to display

If you have to then drive without it, Just put an old one there so it looks like you have one, just bear in mind that theres always the possibility that you might get pulled over by the police lol.

you do get a bit of leeway when you purchase a car, but don't know how long

take a risk and drive and if you get questioned say tax disc in post or driving to drop car off for mot. or borrow a friends car or taxi
