I got a ticket this morning for an expired license plate sticker. It expired on 11-08 My husband and I both over the summer of 2008 put new stickers on our plates. I had no idea that they would expire in less than 6 months. We recently moved to another town a in October and my drivers license address was not changed from our first place where we lived at. I never received anything in the mail about my plate expiring. We left a forwarding address with the post office and received mail from them, but nothing about my plates. Can I plea not guilty for the ticket. If I go to court and I am still found guilty I have to pay triple the fine. I can't afford to pay the ticket otherwise I would just pay it and be done with this mess. Thanks for you help!

Unfortunately, In most Cities Where they issue such tickets If On the day you get It, you must be registered and current. Your not allowed to run to the DMV and do It Then plead Not Guilty and expect the judge to absolve you. It doesn't work that way. Even when you tell them about moving. I would be careful about that also. In most States you get 30 days to notify the authorities of address change.If you didn't that is also a violation.I'm in New York and I so wish they had that extra fine thing if you put the state through an unnecessary court hearing. They wack you good. ( I myself I work for the DMV in charge of Inspections and other things) one year I completely forgot about my vehicles Inspection sticker.I went and got It done the next day but I just paid the ticket. The most you will get from the court is a $20 to $25 dollar reduction from the judge. Seeing as how I didn't want the judge to ridicule me in open court, I just paid up. So should you.

I'm not sure where you live, but I'm in Wisconsin and have experienced a similar situation. I was told that it is my responsibility as a driver to know when my plates, license, registration, etc. expire. I had to pay for the renewal plus a late fee. It's hard fighting the city!
