FRAUD? Uninsurable bad driver (friend) wants added to my perfect record insurance policy?

The worlds worst driver is no longer insurable by anyone and is demanding to be added to my 40 year accident free insurance policy. I say that is outright insurance fraud.
She says that it's not even remotely close to "fraud" and that I'm ignorant to the way things are done in the real world. I already know who's right - the question is; what's the nicest way to tell a friend "NO!" knowing that it will destroy her?
Additional Details
The plan she presented to me was to sign her car title over to me so that it looks like I just bought a second car. JEEZZZ.. how can anyone in their right mind think that's NOT fraud.

NO and that is my final answer. I understand that you don't want to hurt her, but you can't take that chance. Aside from the fact that it is fraudulent, It isn't your responsibility to suffer for her actions. I imagine that having an accident free insurance for 40 years puts you at least in your late 40s. Why should you run the risk of losing your insurable credibility and raising your premiums at this stage in your life for your friend who is not insurable for a good reason I'M SURE. Good luck on being firm with her.

Paul
There is no nice way other than "NO". I had my daughter on my policy once, and every time I want a quote now, I have to provide proof that the accident she had (that's on MY record) was not me.

I'm STILL wondering if I'm paying higher rates because of her, but, of course, The ins people aren't telling.

Forget nice. SAY NO! and MEAN it.

First, it is possible they can't be added, and if they were accepted your rates would triple, or worst.

To add a driver, you have to give the insurance company thier drivers records, tell them which car they are driving and the such.

so if they can't be insured by thierself, they could not be accepted by your company.

They are most likley wanting you to insure thier car without telling your company they are the driver, that is illegal

?
no way

Tell her it is not up to you to add her to your insurance-because it's not. The insurance company investigates drivers before accepting them. All her previous troubles are on record and there is nothing she can do about it. And yes it is fraud, you could lose your insurance over it, as well. too bad for her,if she cared about you she should lay off on this demand!!!!

your name has to be on the title to the car for her to be on your insurance I thought

Just tell her no, and that continuing to push the issue will just make your resolve stronger. Obviously you are right, because not only is it fraud, but YOU will end up paying for the mistakes she makes.

Good luck. :)

This is pretty simple, really.

First off, it's not fraud if you answer the insurance company's questions honestly should you decide to add this individual to your policy. Dumb, maybe, but not fraud.

OK, now on to the real issue. How to deal with a "friend" who wants you to cover her a$$ because she's no longer insurable. A simple, "I'm sorry, I just can't do that." is sufficient. You don't even need to go into details, just that you can't do it.

If she invokes the "friend" word to try to force the issue, just act shocked that she would even think of using your friendship that way, "I must have misunderstood what you said, gotta get my ears checked!" Get my drift?

OK, you know where I'm going with this: A real friend would never dream of asking this question. They might gripe as to what is going on, hoping that you might offer to help, but of course that's as far as they'd go. And with a 40-year perfect record, you're no spring chicken; this isn't news.

Last item, though. Her claim that she can't get insurance is not true. Every state maintains an "assigned risk" pool for the worst of the worst. Drivers are assigned to the insurance company by the state as a condition of writing any insurance in the state. The rates are absurdly high, but insurance IS available.

Be a friend and contact your local DMV office and get the details for your state's assigned risk system. Then offer to drive her to the DMV so that she can sort it out herself. That's what friends are for, right?

look, you have a choice destroy her or your reputation. she will take you right down the tubes with her as she is accident prone. or you could be nicey nicey to her and get ready for your roller coaster ride... :(

Doing the Right Thing
I would not add a bad driver to your insurance policy. That's a one way ticket to getting very high premiums.

if you get into an accident, which is very likley to happen considering your record, then you will cause my insurance to go up. I cannot afford my insurance to go up. AND if i can keep it clean for another couple years i will be able to ge MAJOR discount (thats a lie but say it)

*~*~*~*~*
I work in auto insurance and you are definitely right. And actually it is also fraud unless she lives in your home full-time. No one will add her to your policy anyway. Just tell her NO and to drop it. Or have your agent tell her they can't.

Great friend you have there. And she's lying to you anyway. It doesn't matter how bad your driving record is, you CAN get insurance because all companies have to take the bad ones under a blanket policy. Of course it will cost her a bunch of money to get insurance that way, but it's not impossible.

Next if she puts her car in your name, you are now responsible for anything that happens to the car. If you let someone uninsured drive YOUR car, they will not be covered under the policy anyway. And if you list her as an 'additional driver' they will charge you as much as they would charge her in the first place.

Realize she doesn't give a *&^$ about you, or she wouldn't ask.

Take a leaf from the old drug crusade. Just say no. Don't explain, don't aploligize, just say no. If you get the "I thought you were my friend" just reply "I'm sorry you feel that way."

Seriously, just tell her no, that your insurance rates will skyrocket and you just can't have that.

Don't do it. Your premiums will go through the roof. And if she does get into another accident (gee, what are those odds looking like to you?), you'll be the one held accountable for the deductibles for her, and anyone she hits. Add to that bills for potential injuries, and that you can be named in lawsuits if she just happens to get into an accident and drive off because she doesn't want to deal with it. If she's now at a point where she's no longer insurable, she shouldn't be driving for the safety of the rest of us on the road. My recommendation, this chick needs a bus pass. Tell her in the real world, you suffer consequences for your actions, and don't beg others to cheat the system for you. In the real world, people don't ask friends to do something for them that makes them feel uncomfortable. Real friends don't impose on others with huge problems like this. Most of all, real friends don't attack you by telling you that you're naive in order to get what they want. Bottom line, she isn't really your friend.

You're right when you say we all know the answer to whether or not you should include your girl on your policy. Your question, however, is what's the kindest way to refuse her. That's a bit touchy, isn't it. Perhaps a gentler way to tell her first of all, is that there is no such thing as a "no longer insurable by anyone" driver. At least I don't think so. I think the law demands all drivers be covered. It's just astronomically expensive. There are special companies that specialize in high risk drivers. In Arizona, the state won't register your car without proof of insurance. Once she's proven to the insurance carrier, over a period of time, that she's maintaining the insurance, she will be moved into a more attractive rate. Sympathize with her, assure her you understand it's distressing, but that in the longrun, she's rebuilding her reputation and will be rid of the problem. (Too bad she got herself into that situation in the first place, and then believes it's your responsibility to bail her out.)
