Failed my first driving test today... why?

Failed my first driving test today... why?

I had my first driving test today. I was nervous but not too much. I got 2 minors and one serious... i was told, briefly, that i failed as the first roundabout the examiner said i didn't look right. Which i actually remember doing... but the examiner seemed really rushed, but i felt my driving was okay, and was really happy with my manoeuvres. :)

I have booked another test in two weeks at £67! Just wondering whether this is too soon, and how to get some confidence back.

Any ideas?
Additional Details
Thanks everyone :) Feeling happier about taking a second test so soon now. I was lucky getting one in only a few weeks, because waiting months would have worried me more! Also got one at 9am on a Sat!!! So hopefully no time to worry, and the roads will be quieter! :) Thank you for your kindness xXx

ah similar situation to me,
can i just say, FANTASTIC RESULTS! the examiner was just an extremely harsh one and its unfair, but in the long run, failing your first test isnt too bad,
i passed on my third and i can HONESTLY say its made me a better driver.
No it isnt too soon, you dont want your nerves to build up, and try and get a few lessons crammed in to build your confidence, because u know you can do it.
i cant believe how similar that situation is to what happened to me, its upsetting when you fail on something so small.. =]so *hugs*

keep going back to the place you failed with ur instructor, and go over roundabouts [as this is what u 'failed' on] - the truth is youve done all u can do, youre ready,
just hve a few lessons to build up a few good drives before your next test =] and remember what youve done well, hold ur head high and be pleased for coming away with those 2 minors!! [i got 2 minors too :):P]
infact, just see your next test as your first,
the last one was just a 'practice' ;) with a harsh examiner! LOL

just dust yourself off n try again ;)

and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *****

Just keep driving as much as you can in the meantime. At the next test make sure that you look very obviously. Exagerate the movement slightly. You probably did look, but it was possibly just a quick glance, and that won't be enough to convince the examiner that you are really taking care

The only advice I can gave it to make sure you turn your head when looking left/right, so the examiner can see.

It is perfectly normal to be nervous when taking any test. This is a big step in your life and having the main person beside you decide whether or not it is going to happen "now'" is really nerve racking. Just relax and breath....remember that all your movements have to be kinda like a "cheerleaders", firm and noticable! Make sure that you turn your whole head left and right twice. That way they take notice. When doing your manuvers make sure you are noticed in a good way :-) Just remember to breathe and relax like you were with your instructor....if nothing else helps, just think of them in their underwear....that always makes people feel better, lol.

you'll be fine. only getting 2 minors is great. you were just unlucky.

It wont be too soon as your instructor wouldn't have put you in for your test if you weren't ready. I think your test is more about your luck on the day than whether you can actually drive as most people who take their test are ready for it. Just seems to me that you had a bit of bad luck. Good luck next time!

Don't feel bad. I failed my first driving exam. The examiner said I went through a stop sign because he said I paused (I didn't stop long enough) at it. The next time I took the test I stopped and counted to 10 before moving on. I was 35 when I started driving. My teenage daughter took the driving test and failed it, I forget why now, and she was so down when she got home. She said she couldn't face all her friends at school the next day because they knew she was going to take the test and would want to know what happened. I told her just to tell them she decided to do it another day and not say she failed it. She was a lot happier about going to school the next day when I told her that.

HiStay H, if you feel comfortable and confident with your driving two weeks isn't to soon to take the test over.
When you take the test stay confident but never over confident, drive in a fluid manner, make the Examiner feel comfortable with your driving.
Take your time never go over the speed limit but at the same time don't go 10MPH under the limit. You can fail for going 1mph over the limit, but you can only have points deducted for going 10mph under.
Make full 3 sec. stops @ stop signs, stop completely look left, right, than left again before you proceed.
Remember the Examiner gets into a lot of accidents, he is nervous, make him feel comfortable.

Good Luck.

My daughter failed her 1st driving test. Like you she had 2 minor errors; her serious error was to overtake a bus too slowly on a dual carriageway! Even her instructor couldn't believe it.
Just get some practice in and I'm sure you'll be fine - you don't need to long to dwell on what happened.

You live in the UK... so this might be different.
But I know with my driver's test, we literally had to turn our head from side to side, not just look with our eyes. I dont get it either. But we had to do it at EVERY intersection, stopsign or stoplight or not, even if the light was green! Outrageous huh? Perhaps this could be part of the infraction.
And Im sure you will do absolutely fine. Dont do what I did. I failed my first drivers test at 16, got so scared, that it took me over 4 years later just to try again. Youll do the next one fine, just like this one.
