First car accident, need advise plz!!!?

ok so this morning i was on the freeway on my way to school when the car in front of me abruptly stopped. I slammed on my breaks but managed to hit the car.
It wasn't much of a big thing the other persons car just had a scratched bumper and my car had a slight dent.
now the problem is that my car is insured yet not under my name therefore there is no coverage.
The other persons insurance company already called me...yet i have to call back tomorrow...
what exactly is going to happen... i mean i know i was the one that hit the car...but just because Im not insured...does this mean the whole blame is on me??
i just want to know what might happen next!

When you rear end someone it is usually always your fault and yes, it is on you. Just because you are not on the policy does not mean you were not covered, check with your insurance company. My insurance is under my husbands name and mine but my daughter backed in to a car in our auto and our insurance covered the damage to the other car.

anyone who hits someone from behind is at fault. If the other person has insurance then they will have something called uninsured motorist coverage, which will cover what you did to their car.
But if they want they can sue you.

Umm, who's car is it, and who has the insurance? You said "My Car", meaning, you own it? But your parents pay the insurance or something? I don't get it.

Anyhow, you are at fault, it is always the person who rear ends someone because it generally means they were too close to the vehicle in front of them.

If you are uninsured, you can be sued for all damages, and there's really no way around that. But if the automobile has insurance, even if it is not in your name, it usually covers anyone driving the vehicle unless they are specifically excluded on the policy. Look into this asap.

You say the vehicle you were driving is insured. If so, the insurance will cover you if you had permission to drive it. The insurance is on the vehicle, not the driver. So just have the owner of the vehicle give the information to his/her insurance agent.

Depending on you state, many have a no fault law....unless you already admitted blame to the officer / ins co. Theen you're stuck.

I believe that if you rear end someone it is always your fault according to insurance. That is what I was told, at least. Ive never been in that situation. Are you sure that you are not covered by the insurance? Because a lot of insurances will cover any licensed driver with permission to drive that car.

George B
If the car you were driving is insured but someone else is the policy holder then you need to find out if the policy covers drivers other than the person who owns the policy (it probably does).

Chrys
nothing will happen unless the other person, whom you hit, files for HIS/HER insurance...then THEIR insurance will come after YOU for payment. (watch out for medical bills if it's only a fender bender...people like to take advantage.) Also, why were you driving a car that YOU aren't covered on ??? ALWAYS make sure you have insurance...you're going to find out why...

Mum D
if you hit from behind it is your fault and pay for the repair.. hope you have proper driving licence or else more troubles

I am an expert on this type of thing.
Its totally your falt.
You need to back off and not drive so close to people.

Its hard to answer your question with the info you gave.

Who's car is it? Who is the insured person on the car?? The insurance company may cover the other car under liability but not the car you were driving.

If it does not cover any then the other persons insurance can cover their own car. They could sue you.

well the truth is that if you struck the other from behind that puts the blame on you in most state i live in wa so that is the
way it is here.
you may want to check your local statues or contact a lawyer
also your not covered and if you wernt covered you in falt due that sence your not insured you should have not been driving
good luck in court

eride929
sinse you rear ended the other car its probably going to be considered your fault anyway but most insurance companies cover other drivers so just work with the insurance company and play it by ear beacause the insurance should be for the car no matter whos driving if not itd be on your friend id think they lent you the car

orizano
The policy holder of the vehicle you were driving is liable. The policy holder possibly could sue you for costs. This should go onto your own driving record.

I'm assuming this is your parent's car since you're not familiar with the insurance policy. Honestly, if you're driving the car, your parents should have already informed the insurance company. Unless you feel some dire need to keep this hidden from them, I would recommend telling them outright, particularly since the other driver sounds slightly suspicious. If you haven't deemphasized the damage, it seems odd that the other driver is interested in involving his insurance because his rates would increase as well. Now, here's the bad part: Your insurance rates will most likely go up since it doesn't matter who's at fault.

depends on what state you are in. Used to be that no matter what you are responsible for the vehicle in front of you - in that case, even though they abruptly stopped, you are at fault. Many states have gone to no fault and both Insurance companies are involved. Some states, the insurance first follows the driver, if the driver is not insured, then as long as you were given permission to drive the vehicle, the owner of the vehicle's insurance should cover it. Don't avoid the insurance's company's call. You are not required to answer any questions, you can always speak to an attorney. Was there a police report filed? Was this county, state or local? Sounds like this was very minor and no injuries. Are you covered on your parent's policy? If you live in their house, you probably are as a licensed driver. I would say don't panic and don't answer any questions you are uncomfortable with until you have a knowledgeable person with you.

You really should have insurance on your car, you might be screwed!

its ur fault man, u hit him..thats all that matters u werent paying close attention and were too close to him.

you may have to pay out of your own pocket, or pay a fine for not having your insurance up to date
