when i pass my test, i don't know whether to a actually buy a car. i'm 17 and if i bought a car, how much would it roughly cost to run including the insurance, maintenance, mot, and everything except for the petrol/diesel. the only problem is, i don't think i actually need the car as i'm at college with a bus pass, but in the summer i want to drive lots of places with friends like go camping etc with a car. i was interesested in renting one as it seems ideal for my wants, but you need to be like 22 to rent. is this true? to anyone who is driving at 17 in the uk - is it worth it or is it too expensive?

Get a quote for the insurance - Most likely to be £1000 at least, This would have to be paid in full as your not legally allowed credit until 18,
I would say the following.....
Wait till your 18 - you can pay monthly then
Get a job - No offence insurers will see a student as a higher risk than that of someone working,

Do not get a parent to insure the car in their name as this is what is known as fronting - A older driver knowingly insuring a vehicle they have no intention of being the main user on for the benefit of cheaper insurance for the young driver

The above will invalidate the insurance and insurance companies are not stupid.
If you insist on driving.... Think Low engine perhaps 0998cc or 1142 etc
Stick to an 2000 or older vehicle
Or
Go on a parents policy on their vehicle as a named driver with a company that allows a named driver NCB and after a year get your own policy. |

yeah you must be 22 to rent car. overall expense of owning a car depends on how you drive insurance depends on you i spend 60 a month on insurance and im 19year old male with a sports car. maintains depending on what goes wrong oil change max is like 30 bucks every 3k miles |
