if your dads over 25 (pretty safe guess i reckon) and has fully comp on his own car then hell be third party insured on any car anyway. If he hasnt got his ownn then youll have to have him named as a driver but that will bring the cost of your insurance down anyway if hes got no claims etc... |

Yes, he can drive too but you have to list him as an additional driver. If you want to get quotes from different companies in your area try this site

fully comp means the cars covered for any damage u may cause or an unknown tp may cause or where its not the third parties fault. For someone to drive your car correctly and legally they should be named. It might be worth adding your dad anyway as it may make the premium a bit cheaper if he is claim and conviction free.
some of the replies on this thread are utter nonesense. just for info the owner and keeper of the car should insure it as they have the insurable interest wether they are the main driver or not. Also your dad may have the driving other cars extention on his policy which will cover him Third party only. This is a risk if he damages your car ur not covered u may as well insure properly. Finally to insure a car u do not need to have passed your test |

Your Dad will have to be named on the insurance, unless he has his own car with fully comp. Then he can drive your car but will only be third party covered. My Dad, my brother and I all drive each others cars. We are all fully comp on our own cars but third party on each others cars. Your broker (insurance) will be able to explain this more fully to you and your Dad. |

Megalolz, For car insurance the fastest way to get a free quote is do a auto policy comparison. Be sure to choose the same coverage levels, you can get an fast quote to compare against others. Use the same coverage area, car make and model, mileage and driving history to ensure you get accurate comparison. To get easy auto insurance quotes, go to http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Auto-Insurance.html and you can compare all the major auto insurance companies. |

Hello
Question
Who will drive it the most before you pass your test?
They will be known as the Main Driver.
Facts, If Dad is to be the Main Driver then the policy must by law be in his name and you added as a named driver.
When you pass your test and become the Main Driver then you must be the policy holder.
Most policies cover spouse automatically ie Husband and Wives.
Adding you or Dad as a named driver is available on any insurance not just Full Comp.
If Dad will be the policy holder then you may want to look at the latest policies that credit the policy holder and any named drivers with No Claims Discount.

For car insurance the most efficient way to get a low rate is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make certain that you choose similar policies with the same limits, car model, zip code, etc so that all options are a good comparison.
What I usually recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have big name insurers and can give several quotes on car insurance polices. |

If you name him as a second driver yes but he could already do on his own insurance if he has fully comp - but make sure he checks it.
You may have trouble insuring it until you have passed and so it will not be covered for theft.
Do not listen to those who say you have to have cover yourself for your dads cover, if he has it, to be effective. This is a popular misconception and is wrong. of course without your own specific cover for the car you cannot tax it or cover it for theft. |
