Generally speaking if someone has a previous (recent) Drink Driving conviction?

Are they covered under another car owners 'any driver' insurance policy?

sgtbilkowilko
A lot of people have not really read the question have they?
If it is indeed a "any driver policy" then yes even with a previous drink drive (or any driving conviction that has been spent, ie you are not currently banned from driving) conviction they could drive the car. The issue would arise if the policy only covered named drivers, then you would have to give details of convictions, claims within the last five years (assuming this is a uk question).

it depends on if the driver in question has a drivers lic still,,,and if the insurance pol, covers him ,, best thing to do,,,,check insurance pol with a insurance rep/not on your own....good luck

Actually, if your liscence is not revoked or suspended, and you have the owners permission, then you probably insured. And that would be if the owner of the car was dumb enough to let you drive it.

Providing they hold a current licence for that class of vehicle, and are not suspended or disqualified from driving they will be covered. If that person is under 21 you will need prior consent. You really should speak to the Insurance company first in case there are restrictions on the Policy which you are unaware of.

Well as long as they are over 25 and hold a valid drivers license at said time and you know for a fact by confirming it will insurance company to know all drivers are covered , then you're fine.
Example many people have what they call a Fleet insurance coverage, they might have a list of 10 drivers that drive any number of their fleet vehicles at any time.Suddenly there is a new employee etc that is behind the wheel of the fleet vehicles and they'd be automatically covered regardless of on the list. But there is clauses such as age restrictions or class of license needed but otherwise if a valid license it not matter they be fully covered.
The type of policy you're talking about is for the freedom to have anybody driving your vehicle that you please as long as again their off age and hold a valid license.

Hope that helps and best of luck. Some people have coverage that anybody basically can drive their cars and also they can drive any valid plated vehicle that their license permits them to drive and still be fully covered.

No. If it genuinely is an "any driver" policy (which is rare), the conditions on that policy will require that any prospective driver's convictions must be advised to the insurer - who will refuse.

brent g
i think so unless that other driver has had his licence revoked
also the lender of the car must realize he is responsible for all actions and or damages incurred by the other driver in a court of law if the owner of the car knows he or she is driving impaired

ChocLover
Of course not!

oklatom
Probably not, because a recent DUI probably means no license too.

If they have a valid license, they would be covered, but most wouldn't want to take the chance.

Provided any disqualification is finished it might be ok. If there is any incident the insurers will be asking some serious questions though. Best to ask the insurance company first.
Would you really hand the keys to a known drunk??

if someone has a drink driving conviction then they are not covered by any insurance
