trying to talk to the cop is useless... however being very polite and cooperative during your stop is usually noted by the officer and he should testify to such if asked in court...
This could help in negotiating a lenient sentence or compromise.
There is also the slight chance that the cop will not show up in court, and in that case your ticket is dismissed... this does happen, I've had it happen to me on a serious charge.
First you have to have it scheduled for a hearing, then you get a date, the first date is an arraignment where you plead, meaning you plead Guilty or Not Guilty, the officer IS NOT present during this phase, if you plead Guilty the court can dispose of the case right there, but the court will go on a statement of fact, meaning they will take the officers ticket as his testimony, meaning there is no contesting what the officer wrote you up for, it is assumed that it is fact.
You could then receive a more lenient sentence, possibly driver improvement and a reduced fine, sometimes the judge may allow you to complete some probationary period and withhold the points if you complete this probation as prescribed...
Or you could plead Not Guilty and schedule for trial, then you will get your court date in the mail, the officer will also be requested to be present.
If you go in and see the officer in the courtroom, then you know the dismissal is out and will have to face the judge and ask for leniency...this can work sometimes, it all depends on his mood, your attitude and if you're a juvenile, your parent should go with you.

Only if you surrender your drivers license. The insurance is going up because you are a driver, not because you are listed on the policy. The insurance company will probably refuse to take your name off the policy so long as you are a member of the household and hold a drivers license and then they may still balk because you can get it back and start driving again,. They aren't stupid. Save your breath about talking to the officer. He has seen too many kids your age splattered over the roadways because of speeding. You don't appreciate now but had he not stopped you, you might have been killed in an accident around the next bend. He did you a favor.r

Plead not guilty. You will talk to the officer on your court date, before a judge hears your case. Be nice and you could get some leniency.

you could go to driving school where you sit through a class on a saturday morning but they dont increase your premiums or anything like that if you do
