Fight it in court. The fact that the restaurant was out of business is irrelevant. However, a ticket is not proof of guilt. Anyone can "mistakenly" write you a ticket. Challenge them, demanding proof such as a photo of your car parked illegally. |

As long as the lot is still legally a parking lot, and the handicapped sign is there, you can get a ticket. However, if you take proof there is no active business on the premises, therefor no use for the handicapped spot, you may get the magistrate to reduce the fine, make it a reprimand, or toss it completely. Now the big question, and be prepared for the magistrate to ask it, too - if the restaurant is out of business, what were you parked there for?
Yesterday I asked why you were parked there if there wasn't a business there. I am still waiting for an answer. |

You can try - but if the sign was in place, the argument will be that it is still reserved for handicapped, even if not at that restaurant.
And the fact that YOU parked there supports the argument that it is still a desirable spot for parking and the handicapped should be able to take advantage of it. |

As a handicapped person my opinion of you would be removed by Customer Care if I put them into words. Handicapped spaces are for the handicapped only. You parked where you don't belong, you got caught, now be man enough to take the consequences. Pay your fine, stop whining like a baby, and learn to stay out of handicapped spaces. People like me take great delight by calling the police on people like you. |

If it's still signposted as a handicapped space, then it's still a handicapped space. No HC plate, no HC placard? You get a ticket.
You can try to go to court, but there's no way around the fact that you did park in a handicapped spot. Whether or not the business is still there doesn't matter. |
