Got in a car accident; other driver at fault, who pays my expenses?

I don't have a car now. I need to go to work so I have to rent a car until I find another used car to buy/the other drivers insurance cuts me a check (my car is totalled, guaranteed, it was an 18 wheeler that hit me).

Also, I went to the doctor to get checked out. Got meds, etc but I don't have medical insurance. On top of that the doctor said that I need to take the meds to help reduce the swelling and pain but that I cannot drive while on the meds. I drive for a living though so I might not be able to go to work.

So between the towing and storage fees, medical expenses, rental cars, possibly lost time at work, who pays for all this stuff and how long will it take to get reimburesd and have the check for the car cut?

Listen up all oxygen thieves who keep telling me that it was my fault because it was an 18 wheeler. You need to grow a brain that thinks in a logical fashion. The state patrol stated that it was the truckers fault and gave him the citation. He even admitted fault you oxygen thieves.

The driver that hit you his company has insurance and they will cover your expenses. I would make sure your insurance company fights for you.

Sorry about your accident, unfortunatly it depends on your state, if it's a no fault state then YOUR insurance should pay your expenses. Assuming a police report was filed you should contact your insurance company they can give you all the details.

If you didn't have insurance you should contact HIS insurance, but be prepared for a fight, doesn't matter if thier client was at fault, they DONT LIKE TO PAY.

well a semi ran out in front of me due to him not stopping it tottaled my car and i stayed in the hospital over night and got meds you need to call there insurance and see what they are going to offer and explain to them you can not work due to the meds you are on. they should pay you for pain and suffering and replace your car. i owed the bank money for my car still like 6 thousand they ppaid it off and i got $4,000 out of it after they paid my med bills. but that is in indiana i dont know if it will be diffrent in diffrent states or not but if you feel there offer isnt at all reasonable then id ask your insurance company and see what they suggest you doing they might talk to the other insurance and see if they cant get you a better deal out of it.

I'm in the same boat my freind, the first thing you may want to do is call a lawyer. I got one and not a dime has come out of my pocket although he will be paid 33 percent of the settlement that I receive on just my doctors bills, I believe the doctor also gets about 33 percent and I will get a third also. As far as the "property" i.e. my car, I will receive 100% of the money for the car. It has been about 45 days and I am still waiting as the clown that hit me is trying to dodge my lawyer and his insurance company and his insurance won't acknowledge it is there fault until they talk to their driver even though the police report clearly says he was at fault. My lawyer tells me eventually they will have to just pay up but they are going to drag their feet as long as possible. Their insurance company will have to pay you for you rental car also so save all your receipts for any expenses you may have to incur including inconvenience , missed days from work, medical bills etc. hope this helps, good luck.

the person at fault pays your medical bills,and everything else. note: you don't say what kind of car you had, if it wasn't a top of the line auto and in good shape before the accident,don't expect to get a lot for it. the insurance adjuster will look at it good. the miles,interior,exterior etc. that's what helps determine the value. also you should be able to receive compensation for pain & suffering as well as time missed from work. IF it was me, I would get a lawyer to handle the case. a lawyer would certainly get more money for you, BUT the only thing about that is, they will usually get 40% of the money. but you can still come out good on it. find one quick and get the ball rolling. good luck

from my experience, my insurance comapny paid.
and if you want the other person to pay, you have to file a lawsuit against them.
otherwise, you just get reimbursed through insurance.

Call a personal injury lawyer immeidately. If you dont have any cash find one of those lawyers that dont take money until there is a settlement. If you are injured there may be long term effects that you are not aware of. Plus, insurance companies are businesses and they will pay out as little as possible. A lawyer will definately help.

First of all, you should be talking to a lawyer NOW, and by now I mean NOW!!! I got hurt in an accident, I am a driver too, I was driving on the job at the time I was hit, if you were you need to tell your employer so you can start on workers comp, if not, there is no time to waste. Did I mention get an attorney now? most will take your case on contingency (no money up front til you collect for damages) if you weren't at fault.

If you got hit by an 18 wheeler, it was your fault. Pay your own expenses.

State troopers don't know sh*t. Remember, they're CAR drivers. 18 wheelers have limited maneuverability and flexibility. It's your responsibility to drive carefully around them. If an 18 wheeler hit you, it was definitely your fault, without question. Maybe all your financial difficulty will be an effective lesson in how to drive to ensure your own survival. Too many people drive like fools around trucks, thinking they're little more than speedbumps to be gotten around, without the slightest nod to the fact that trucks KILL on contact. You got lucky, be glad and accept your good fortune with grace.
