I am 16, about 1 more month and my provisional license was up. I was driving with a couple friends and I couldn't see a turn, so I didn't have time to slow down. I was going about 40. And so I had to take the turn at 40, we slid out and hit a public tree. No damage done to ANYTHING, but the car. Everyone was ok, everything was ok, but the car was totalled. I didn't get any tickets for anything. Just had the police come and take the report and had it towed away. Of course, we all got scolded by our parents. But there is one thing I am worried about. The officers didnt cite anything, luckily, but we filed the claim to insurance. I was in violation of both the restrictions (Carrying persons under 20 and driving after 11 P.M.) on my provisional license, once again though the officers didn't note this at all. Is it still possible that my license will be revoked because we had to notify the insurance company about the accident and in turn, that will be notified to the DMV? Thank you for any help, it would really ease my mind.

If the officer attending didn't cite you for violating your restrictions then they're not going to bother doing so now. However violating your license restrictions means you were driving without a valid license, which means the insurance company will not pay for the damages to the vehicle as you violated a policy condition. If I were you I would be prepared for the scolding of my life when the insurance company tells your parents the claim is being denied. |

DUH! What do you mean you "didn't see the turn"? Was it hiding or something?
And you *did* violate two of the restrictions.
And you totalled a car. You (and everyone else) were fortunate that no one was hurt and no innocent people had to suffer, but really, what were you thinking? Oh, I know, you weren't thinking...you were being cool with your friends.
Teenagers -- they always think they're immortal. And they never care that their thoughtless actions may hurt someone *else*. |
