Greece has been in the EU since 1981 so if you got your license any time after that, it is valid for one year, after that you must exchange it for an UK license, period.
A word of advice: tell the Greek authorities that you have lost it and get another one.
When you have it, give the old one to DVLA in exchange for a UK one.
This trick is valid because the DVLA people are supposed to send your license back to Greece but they do not and when one day you go back to Greece you don't have to deal with the hassle of changing it again. |

Whether your licence is valid will depend on when it was issued. If it is a newer type with the EU emblem it is valid in UK or any other EU country. An older style Greek licence is only valid for 6 months but since you are a student and presumably will go back to Greece every few months you should be OK for the duration of your studies as long as you do not stay for more than 6 months at a time.
Insurance should not be a problem, if you are buying the car from a dealer he should be able to sort it out for you or alternatively just go into any insurance brokers and ask for a quote.
It is impossible for you to prove that you have never had an accident but that applies to everyone, not just 'foreign' drivers. When you apply for insurance you will be asked whether you have had any accidents or insurance claims in the previous 3 or 5 years. If the answer is no, just write no. If you have had any accidents you will have to admit to it and you may have to pay more for the insurance. If you have been involved in an accident but write no on the form you commit an offence and your insurance will be invalid - don't even think about doing it. |

To start with, your driving license may be valid according to EEC rules but as expected, not in the UK if you drive a British registered vehicle (except trucks) They don't accept that over here !
So you will have to pass a driving test and obtain a provisional license.
Meaning you will not be allow to drive alone. You will need to go on the road with someone who has a full licence
As for Insurance, you can obtain one over here but be ready to pay through the roof since you will "officially" be regarded as a New Driver. |
