Yes they CAN find out !

Part of the application process includes the insurance company doing a check with the DVLA database (a) to verify that your personal details are correct (b) to verify that you actually hold a valid UK licence and (c) the length of time you've held the licence for.

If you KNOWINGLY LIE on your application for (a) the insurance is NOT valid and (b) you are committing FRAUD - which is a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment !

Lower insurance quotes are EARNED by proving you're a safe driver over a period of time !

There are various insurers out there that offer cheaper policies for young drivers. I can personally recommend endsleigh, i have been with them for the last 2 years, and for my first year of driving, was quoted a respectable Â£650 a year. Yes they can. They may even ask for a copy of the license when you take out the policy.
In the event of a claim they will check the license.
If you commit insuance fraud you may not be able to get car insurance for a hell of a long time after.

A part time job could increase the premium as you are not just regularly traveling to one place but two. some jobs can cause insurance to be higher - bar work for instance.
If you have a job and don't tell them - that is also insurance fraud - they could refuse to pay out if car is damaged or stolen on the way to work or while parked there.
If your car is not covered to commute in then the police stop you on the way to or from work their records will tell them so and you would be prosecuted for having no insurance.

Have you tried getting a quote with one of your parents on the policy too? Not as the main driver but an occasional one? What kind of car is it? Tesco Insurance are usually pretty good for newly qualified drivers. Have you tried some of the comparison sites?

ok the question is why did you lie? Dude you are pretty foolish thinking that they will not find out because they will run dept of motor vehicles report and find the real answer.
One thing that may happen is that your premium may be increased because insurance companies rely on representations their clients make and offer a quote for insuring your vehicle. When they find out that you have mis represented the facts, especially your age, they will determine if you made a mistake or if you acted fraudulently into obtaining a less expensive policy. So in order to get yourself out of this mess, you need to stop feeling guilty and stop with the lies.
By the way, you will not get in trouble if you come clean and call ur agent, and say that you think you said years instead of months.
Moral of the story Stop lieing, it only gets worse and worse and worse.

Yes, they will find out. don't do it ! Do not lie to an insurance company. It is called insurance fraud and could have dire consequences
