HIt and run? What will happen now?

I was trying to park in a crowded supermarket and when i did i rubbed up the car on the right side, I got out and looked at it and i thought i scratched it up when i touched the car it was dust that wiped off, I didn't see any scratches, just dust. There were witnesses in a truck behind me who watched the whole thing. I was on the phone with my mother in law and she said if there werent any marks i could leave so I did. Well I got home and I saw scratches to my car so I'm not sure if there were some to the parked car. Question.. I'm from Kentucky but I go to school in a different state, if they get my license number and car type what's going to happen?

You say if questioned by the police "Hey I went down the road & waited for a while & the guy who hit me did not follow"

the law says you should make every effort to locate the other driver. otherwise, you should leave a note, with brief explanation, your name and insurance carrier information. Since it was private property, different rules apply. notify your insurance carrier asap to eliminate any problems

Hitting another car and leaving the scene is hit & run whether the car is occupied or just parked empty somewhere.

Worst case scenario is that months or years from now you are minding your own business and get pulled over for an outstanding warrant. You will be arrested and taken to jail. You will have to post bail and have to appear in court. What happens from there depends on the charges and the laws of the state.

There are several lesser possibilities in between but the potential for a long forgotten event to disrupt your life in the future exists.

You should have waited for the owners. It would have been worth it. Your mother-in-law was incorrect. You needed to get with the owner even if you could only leave contact information on paper at the time and mutually acknowledge there wasn't any damage.

You should contact the shopping center management and see whether anyone reported the incident. If the damage was minimal I doubt they would bother reporting it to the police even if witnesses made themselves known to the owners. Chances are the furthest this got was their own insurance agency. They might not even bother doing anything because they would have a deductible to absorb. You just may never know.

you will provbally A. your liesecnce will be suspended and B. you might if possible they prob it u will have to pay for the car dameges
C. if no 1 was killed/injured u wont go to jail.
