Do you live in a state where car insurance is mandatory (i know NY is, but no clue what the rules are elsewhere) if so, would recommend getting yourself an attorney. 1,250 isn't pocket change, but its also not the end of the world, have you asked her if you can pay in a few installments, maybe 625 in the four days, then the other 625 within the next few weeks or month? Either way, even if she does take you to court (which will cost both of you additional money and headache) she will not be able to get money from you that you don't have, and the court will likely impose a payment plan that will be affordable to you. She will most likely take you to small claims, in which case you do not need an attorney. The fact is, you do owe her for the damage. Was a police report made? did you receive any citations? Its hard to advise without knowing all the facts.

If you did not have insurance, you will lose your license (depending on your state). Her insurance company will take you to court and you will have to pay the $1,250 plus all attorney fees and court costs. She needs to report it to her insurance agency, then you can make arrangements with them to pay back the amount. If you do not have car insurance, there really is no way around it if you cannot pay her the money right away.

Did they get a police report? Sounds like no, or the police would have known you didn't have insurance. I would ask for the estimate and pay it. She has the upper hand, since you were driving without insurance, but I would offer, in writing to pay the damages, and nothing else. If she takes you to court, they won't give her anymore than that, but they will probably give her that. How did you get a new car without insurance?

She's scamming you she doesn't want it to go on her insurance for some reason, let her take it to court, and get yourself a lawyer!

You were at fault in the accident. You chose to drive without insurance. You broke the law. You owe them the money to repair the damage that you caused. If you do not have the money, borrow it or sell something to get it. You have a computer, television, and other assets. Sell them and live without them until you can afford to replace them. You have to be responsible for your actions.

It seems they are being more than fair with you. They got an estimate of the damage, and expect you to pay. Why should they wait for the money or delay the repair to make it easier for you?

If I were the one you hit, I would have already filed criminal charges.

Hire your own attorney on Pro-bono. Most of them do it for accidents.

Just a friend.

Work out a payment plan. Most attorneys will not work pro bono if it's your fault, especially since the amount is not very big.
