Is that a good deal or not. I also left my car in the impound storage for over 30 days and it cost them $675 to get it out and they are deducting it from the price of the car. Is this a good deal? My car was gently used, which probably doesn't matter to them! It had sunroof, cloth, cd changer all the bells and whistles except leather. Additional Details Reason it was left in the pound because I had no where to tow it...my apartments would not allow it, every dime I had to spend I spent it paying for people to give me a ride. My lawyer never tried to get me a rental, not even for at least the 3 days you get per the state of GA. The adjuster and I played phone tag for weeks because I work in an environment with no cell phone signals and calls are recorded, so I didn't want to do any personal stuff....just one big mess after the other!

is it a coup, sedan, or wagon?
V6 or V4?
Automatic or manual?
all of these things affect value. go to KBB.com and others similar, as well as searching local listings for a car similar to yours to make sure you're getting the best price.
as for the impound charge, i dont think they can deduct that since it is a separate charge. call them and complain about it! |

they shouldn't deduct the entire storage bill from your settlement. if you car is non driveable, they should pay for a reasonalbe amount of time, up to a week. did they send you a storage mitigation letter? if not, i would try and negotiate that down. |

Well, they are really offering you about $2700 for the car, right?
First off, you have a legal responsibility to mitigate the total of the damages that you have received. So, did you just blow off the impound yard, or did you have a real reason like you were injured and laid up for that time.
If it is the former, then those charges are at least partially yours. If it was the latter, then they are part of the other guys bill (which is paid for by the insurance company).
Ok.. ignoring those charges for a minute, the question then becomes what is the value of your car.
Check eBay's COMPLETED auctions to see what people have paid for comparable cars (remember to factor in pick up costs since sometimes a vehicle is sold in New York to a buyer in Nevada). Also check last weeks paper and old Craigslist postings and call people to see if they sold their car and for how much. That should give you an idea of the value of your car.
Knowing all of this you can decide if their offer is fair or not. You are not obligated to accept their offer, but if you choose not to, then your next step will likely be a small claims action against the driver of the other vehicle.

You had a lot of miles on the car.....I think that is a good price that you are getting.....But the only thing I have a question about is, why so long in impound????? |

research the car's value(kelley blue book etc.)
if you were aware of the charges why did you not retrieve it ? if you were unable because of some legitimate reason then do not accept that deduction.
You deserve to be restored should there be unfavorable replies after showing true value get a lawyer that will cost them a lot more than settling a fair price ! |

Yes, it's common to deduct the towing charges, but they are a bit low on the offer. It's worth every cent of $3,000 even with the high mileage. |

Look up a Blue Book and an Edmunds or NADA on your car and see what they say it is worth. If it is more than you can use those to show the insurance company they need to pay you more. They won't give you more than it was worth, but don't let them rip you off either. |

I just ran the kbb private party value in my zip code, for this car, and came up with $3,000.
So I'd say the offer is a bit short. |

Go to Kelly's Blue Book. I did a little check but depending on condition and accessories the value changes.

Gently used doesn't mean 258,000 miles and 11 years old. I'm sorry but I don't think you will get much more from them for it. You should change your insurance companies after this I know state farm did me justice in my accident. |
