Dani is right. Seems like you have the terminology mixed up. The coverage you need to help you fix your car is called "Collision". Comprehensive coverage is for vehicle thefts, hitting an animal, vandalism, etc.
You should check your policy to confirm you have Collision coverage. If you don't really have this coverage, this may be why you are hearing that there is no coverage. Otherwise, as long as you had it on your policy at the time of loss, you're fine.
The second coverage you'll need to utilize is Property Damage to help fix the pole if there was any damage. You should also check your policy to ensure you carry more than $15,000 for this coverage. If there's no damage to the pole, then don't worry about it. If there's major damage to an industrial street light or light pole, the cost to replace it could be high (worst case scenario). It's best to get your insurance involved so they can help you understand what coverages will protect you. |

make a claim. tell the adjuster exactly what happened. collision will cover this, not comp. |

Did you take the details of anybody who witnessed the accident if not you can still claim but you will have to pay the excess also if you are paying by installments then the full years money will be deducted from any payout .As for your insurance costs without more details it is impossible to give an answer. |

If you have comprehensive insurance and the damage well exceeds your excess, just phone your Insurance Co & tell them what happened. If your damage is less than your excess costs, there is no need to inform your Insurance Co because the cost of the repair is down to you. If you don't have an identifiable witness your in the chair for the ultimate costs. |

Sorry to hear of you misfortune. Were there any witness to the incident? if you had got hold of their details, it would have made it so much easier. But anyway, make the claim, describing the incident as clearly and as accurately as you can. Go back to the crossing and check if there are any cameras. If so, contact the council's traffic department or the police to see if there were any footage. Also take some photos of the crossing, showing exactly where you swerve and hit the post. If you are telling the truth, they should pay up because you are covered the moment you were accepted as their customer.
I don't think you are from the USofA. In the UK, comprehensive means almost everything covered, including collision cause by you (albeit to avoid some idiot). |

If you are fully comp then put claim in through your insurance company. They will deal with the rest but this will be a claim and you will lose your no claims bonus and policy will cost about twice as much next time.
The policy is covering you from the minute you start it and the fact that it is a week old makes no difference.
This is all providing you have taken the policy out with honest and full details and told them about your new car - if not you will get nothing and be sued by the driver of the other car and possibly prosecuted by the Police |
