Have a cruddy situation....have NO TITLE****NO OWNER?

recently bought a 1995 Dodge Stratus from an elderly lady locally....she hadnt driven car in FOREVER and so i went and bought it for like 300bucks...it runs GREAT only 45k miles..only ONE PROBLEM...i have paid PART of the 300.00, **i have the car** she has the title...she is kinda getting old and forgetful and lives alone for the most part...she SWEARS she gave me the title but she never did...she is stubborn and refuses to help in process as she IS SO SURE she gave me title....want to be able to use car as it is without having to sell for parts or change bodies, but done know how i can get a title for car!!! really ******** situation, but i need help.....:(

it gets better...i havent seen her in a while and no one is ever around her home when i am, but mail piles up and such...may just be out of luck!! :))

Contact you DMV and ask how you can get a replacement title so she can sign it over to you. Don't argue with her, just say you must have lost it. If there is a fee for the replacement title, just pay it so you can close this deal.

no you cannot file for a lost title because you were never the owner of the car.

i hope you have a receipt for the 150.00 that you've already paid her.

i don't know what you would do in a situation like this, but i do know where you need to start and that is calling the department of motor vehicles. they will be able to direct you.

had this prob kind of, i had lost my title before i transfered it. what i did was wrote down the VIN # and went to the DMV and told them the car was abandoned and wanted to find the owner or anything like that. then i got a lost title registration form and put in all the nesscacary info except i put my address and forged the signature and got the title took it to the gut to sign and went on my way. never had any problems. not sayin that i recommend forgeing the sig as if u can find her just have her sign the form with ur address and when u get the title take it to her and have her sign it or just forge it. its not like u stole it or sumthing. besides how do they know if she did or didnt sign the damn thing.......ur right they have no freaking idea and no questions will ever be asked unless the car is in some kind of legal prob.

I would go to the local law and ask them about it. Maybe one of hem could ask her to look for it just to make sure.

First I would honestly try to reason with her, maybe ask her and tell her that you might have miss placed but you'd feel better if she at least would check too. If not go to the BMV and ask them what you should do

If she's that forgetful, pay her the other $150, and when you do that, ask her for the title and the bill of sale at the same time. Even if she doesn't come through with the title then, the bill of sale will help you get a title you can call your own. Good luck.

And if you apply for a lost title, they will mail it to her, and you will be no better off. About all you can do is tell her you will pay the rest of what you owe her providing she gives you the title. If she refuses, demand a refund of what you already paid. The deal is too complicated without a title. Tell her she said she would hold the title until it was fully paid...maybe that will jog her memory.

Does she have any relatives that you can talk to about this?...
Maybe she is waiting for you to give her the balance that is due, before turning over the title.....She would have had to sign the back of it first.....

There is a form to replace title at the DMV, she just has to sign on the line.
Send it to her confirmation with signature if she doesn't sign it. If no response after so many days, all you have to do is prove you tried to communicate with her.
Call the DMV, they will help.

Well, you need this title. Tell her you lost it. Go down to the DMV with her, get a Duplicate Title application. They'll mail her a duplicate title. . .then she can RE-SIGN (or whatever) the title over to you.

Teh owner can file for lost title, and youcan assist by getting the paperwork and doing the leg work. If she is honest and wants the rest of the money, she will be glad to affix her name to the paperwork. To be sure, before you go there, call the local DMV and ask them if this is possible.
