And if so, did the police and insurance companies buy it? Were there any witnesses that missed up your story? And if there are not witnesses and the accident is not simple, how do insurance companies decide who's at fault when it's just your word against someone else's? Were you ever placed at fault for an accident that you didn't think you caused? And did you think the other driver (or yourself) could have prevented the accident?

It depends on what state you are in. Michigan has "no fault" which means each person gets up to like $600 from their own no fault insurance policies. If you want more than that you have to make a really good case and take them to court. The only reason it matters who caused what, is so that the cop can dish out tickets, and then your insurance is effected by the police report only. The police can tell what happened a lot of times just by looking, they see it so much. I'm not even sure the cop listened to my statement when I was hit, he knew it was the other persons fault and drew up the ticket (he also told me to take it easy because I'd be feeling a lot worse later than right then). They know what they are doing, don't lie....exaggerate maybe. |
