Forget all the other convoluted answers, this is so simple - tell him to sue you. He'll get nowhere. |

Tell the guy you want to go through the insurance company and you want your money back and if he does not agree just go to the Police and explain, and get your friends to all write witness statements, a bumper should not cost £1000! |

Suggest he goes away - possibly a little less politely. This is a try on - don't give him a penny. I never heard of a new bumper costing £1000!!!! My garage rebuilt the front of my car for £1200. Stand firm and say you will go to the police if he tries it on again. He has already had very fair payment for which you have witnesses. |

How many different ways are you going to ask this question? Here in the States we would just tell him to f**k-off and will let a judge decide. (I'm thinking you DO NOT have insurance, which is why you're melting-down about this...) |

remind him you had five witness's see you pay him.
remind him when he left the scene and didn't report it as a hit and run he obviously didn't have a problem after you settled with him right then and there. a deal is a deal he came up with the figure of 170.
i would report the incident to the police and add that the man is trying to extort $ from you. |

There was a UK TV report recently about people who actually do this deliberately. They force you into taking the blame and then extort for more. They tend to be travelling 3, 4 or 5 to a car as 'witnesses'.
In an accident situation - Never admit blame on the spot: your insurance company will disown you.
Put everything through the insurance company: Always get Fully Comp insurance and they handle it all.
If the other driver starts getting out of hand, call the police and ensure you always stand where independent witnesses can see the proceedings and get their contact details too.
Always carry a notebook and pen to write down all the details including the VIN of the other vehicle. Asking for that will stop most scamsters in their tracks. Goes without saying that you should not offer yours until requested.
Keep your cool. Let the other guy lose his head. Again witnesses will remember your non-violent attitude even when provoked.
Never ever admit blame at the scene. |

And now you know why any accident, no matter how minor it seems, should be reported to your insurance. Even if you pay out of pocket, the insurance will 1. know about it in the case someone tries to extort more money, and 2. will often give you a hold harmless receipt to use along with advice. |

I had a woman claim that I hit her when in fact it was a near miss. I told her I did not hit her but was willing to provide my information. I also told her that I needed her insurance information as well. She said "Don't you want to avoid having this on your record?" I told her that I have a very good record and I pay for insurance so why not make use of it. She suddenly had a "change of heart" and decided to let me off the hook. Trying to settle behind the Insurance companies back leads to trouble with scam artists such as this. Do not do it! In this case there were no witnesses. |

Doesn't matter where on earth you live...ALWAYS get a receipt!! But even so, If you have insurance why didn't you let them handle that? That's exactly what you pay monthly payments for!!! Call your representative immediately and inform them of everything. You may be out the money you already paid but atleast do what's right for all concerned and stay off those bumpers. |

well first of all you didn't do well in the first place, you shouldn't have paid him in cash on the spot, this issue could have been dealt with the presence of a police officer but since you took it your own way, like you said, there is no guarantee that you paid him the money.
but don't worry you can always win, first of all ask to see the bill of the first spray, yeah he might fake it but if you receive it verify from the shop if it is correct and also ask to speak to the manager about the other £1000 he is demanding, he thinks you've got lots to give away and might be in the process of milking you, but show him that you know your legal rights, if things gets worse seek advice from your insurance company....... Never pay him any money again, without verifying, and also please love don't make that mistake again by paying someone on the spot! |

Arrange to meet with 6 of your biggest mates. (hire transit for this one).
Bundle bloke into back of transit and apply Black and Decker to rear of kneecap until it appears at other side............
No seriously, this is a common scam.Call his bluff, and get legal on him. He will soon disappear into the sunset. |

This is such an easy question to answer although i agree with welsh pikemike . Tell the guy to f??? off to chew your root . You are totally in the wrong if you hit someone from behind so that you accept , now go through your insurance and to be quite honest the bad news is that you may have to put the £170 pounds down too a very expensive lesson. You now look to the guy that you have no insurance that's why you wanted to pay there and then. go to your local dibble station and ask how you stand with witnesses. Don't pay there and then EVER and ALWAYS get a RECEIPT.Good luck. |

for all you know he could of staged this accident for his own benefit, what you need to do is try to record him admitting you've paid him already, then turn the tables on him. |

TOON ARMY FOR EVER.

Yeah i would agree with most of the postings here.Call his bluff.Witnesses?Dodgy one this as they were all passengers in your car not sure insurance company would believe their statements.Biased towards you maybe, not independent witnesses.I would take further advice on this one, phone any insurance company up and they will advise regarding witnesses. |

Looks like you've got a problem with your driving. You've asked this question several times, and you mentioned you already have a claim going through; now you run into someone from behind.
Your witnesses (You say 5, so there were 6 of you in the car?) will have little effect, they'll be considered as biased. Go through your insurers, tell them what happened in the accident and let them sort it out. When matey-boy tries again, tell him to "go away" and deal with his own insurers.
I'm afraid it looks like you've lost your cash - you fell for it. |

Whenever driving, you are supposed to know how to drive a safe distance behind so that if car in front stops suddenly you do not crash into it.
In any accident, there needs to be police report, and insurance companies notified. Was that done?
If not, you could be in trouble for leaving scene of an accident.
If there was no police report, the other driver is also at some risk. You can then pretend to that person that the accident never happened, that the car must have been damaged from earlier, there is no proof that you bumping in had anything to do with the damage the body shop thinks need repairing. However, if other driver tapes conversations, that could be damning evidence against you later.
If the insurance company finds out you were in accident and did not tell them, that can be far far worse. They would have the right to make your insurance policy void because it is then obvious to them that you are a dishonest person who they cannot trust.
From those witnesses, get depositions, notarized, whatever, evidence before their minds get foggy. You may as well write off the money you paid without getting a receipt, because there is no evidence of this.
Demand two or more copies of body shop estimates ... so in your hands are copies of paperwork from body shops, not what the guy is saying,
It is not unusual for people, at an accident, to be shaken up, not thinking through whole situation, not see all the damage, not know costs to repair everything, find out more later.
The body shop may find damage to bumper that was not obvious to ordinary people. There can also be medical harm not obvious right away. |
