Help! I got into an accident while driving my boyfriends car!?

I have been housesitting for a week now, and I left my car there and rode home with my boyfriend. This morning, he let me take his car to work..and randomly, we had gotten some snow in the middle of the night. I am not used to driving his Ford Focus, as I have an SUV w/ 4WD- and I slide through an intersection and hit another vehichle. I understand it's my fault, and i'm fine with the ticket I recieved etc.
I am more concerned about the fact that my bf is on his parents insurance, and the cop told me it would go on their insurance...
is there anyway to switch the accident to mine? don't I have to contact my insurance company anyway? I dont know what to do but I love my boyfriend and his family, and really want to try to make things right cuz i feel terrible. Also, they have State Farm insurance and his dad actually works for the company & has for several yrs...whatre the chances they'll have accident forgiveness and it can just all be forgiven if my insurance wont take over?

and unfortunately, this is my second accident semi-recently. I was involved in an accident last June in my own car.

Coverage follows the vehicle. The claim will be filed against the policyholder's policy. Your coverage would be considered excess primary.

If is possible the accident will be "forgiven" if this was the first accident.

Let your insurance company know about the accident, but they will not take over the handling until the limits of the coverage of the primary policy are exhausted.

Insurance follows the vehicle. As long as the vehicle was insured at the time his insurace will pay for the vehicle you hit. Now if there was not insurance on the vehicle then your policy would kick in. As long as the boyfriend gave you permission then you are okay.

As far as rates are concenred, rates follows the driver. As you were not the driver of the vehicle there is a very very good chance this will not have an impact on his rates. remember when loaning a vehicle you are also loaning your insurance so to speak..

Insurance follows the car, not the driver, and unless your BF is a named insured on his parents' policy, he did not have permission to loan his car to you. Trying to "switch" policies could be considered insurance fraud, not a good thing to get involved in. Better be thinking of some way to pay the other driver, or at least their deductible.

well ... you said your boyfriend's Dad works for State Farm ... heck ... he will know the best solution here .... you have an inside contact this way ...

I would like to know how this all turns out for you ... cuz I have a family member that got into an accident also a while back .... a lady got a cut finger out of it and wants to sue for a million (seriously)

i think it would be a good idea to triple your liability portion of your insurance for the future .... we are .... lets hope we never need it.

No. If you don't want his insurance involved, you can pay out of pocket for all damages. If you can't do that, then it goes on the policy that covers his car. Your insurance covers your car, not his or anyone else's vehicle.

Remember, insurance goes with cars, and when you loan out your vehicle you also loan out your insurance policy.

whatever insurance is on the car is the insurance that will be used, your ins. company will never agree to fix someone elses car. the only thing you can do is pay for the repairs instead of the insurance, or if you dont have that much money, pay them back over time, or just beg their forgiveness.
