My Boyfriend Just Got 3 Points On His Licence Today... And I Was Wondering If I Was Still Able To Drive His Car.. Im A Learner Driver, And Im Insured On His Car And I Have Driven it Loads Before Today, I Have Been Having Proper Lessons for 5 Months But I Was Just Wondering If The Points On HIS Licence Affect Me? Help Please

uk answer you are ok providing that the bf is over 21 and held a valid full licence for at least 3 year for that category of vehicle the only time the bf points effect you or anyone else is if he collects 12 points in a 3 year period then he looses his licence so would be unable to supervise a learner |

Points don't effect the vehicle - they're the sole ownership of the driver who gets them. |

As long as he is still in possession of a valid license, he can still drive the car and be your teacher. His license doesn't affect you at all unless he loses it. Then he can't be your teacher. If he loses his insurance, you can't drive the car at all. Your permit remains unaffected. |

Points on your boyfriend's license affect him only, and have nothing to do with you. Even if his license got suspended, you could still drive. Someone other than your boyfriend would have to be in the passenger seat, though. |

Only in that if he gets enough points that his license is suspended, he can no longer supervise your driving. |

Your boyfriend getting points on his licence doesn't make any difference to you driving his car. If he was banned, that would be another matter. So you are legal to carry on driving with your boyfriend. |

2. yes, as long as you are insured to drive the vehicle. The points on his license have no effect on your ability to drive. |

Nope. The license controls who can drive a car in general. The specific car is completely separate. The only thing that I'm not sure of is if he can still be the "licensed driver" overseeing you for your permit. It depends on your state and any legal issues arising from the 3 points.
p.s. Be careful about answers that say how many points you can have. It is probably accurate in their state, but each state has different point systems. 3 points in IL used to get your license suspended. In CA, it takes 4 within 12 months. You can get up to 8 when spread over 3 years. |
