if i insure my car for £3000 pound should i get this back when the car is written off ?

Now do you mean that your premium is Â£3,000 or that you've valued your car at Â£3,000.
You won't ever get the premium back, and in the event of your car being a total loss, the insurers will pay you the market value of your car unless you specifically have 'agreed value' insurance.

If you buy the car from a garage and pay for 'gap' cover then yes, otherwise you will get the value from glasses guide (this is the trade price bible)
