I was just wondering if instead of paying me (16) paying a 300 to 400 dollar car insurance payment every month under my name if it is possible for my dad to just put the car under his name and then have a waaaaay lower car insurance payment. Can we do this or is this illegal?
Additional Details
Would it be more expensive if we were both listed as drivers, or if I was just listed as the only driver?

If you live together or he owns the car, yes, the car can be on his insurance.
If you live in different places and you own, the car, no.
However, having the car is his name may not reduce the insurance as much as you think. Car insurance premiums are determined by the ages of ALL the drivers, not just the owner. Even if the policy is in his name, if you also drive the car, then the insurance will be much more expensive than if only he drive it. |

It depends on what state you live in. As insurance companies simple fallow the law.
But in my state.."Pa". a parent can insure a minor child as 10% driver.
And you Dad's good credit rating will help you get a good rate on the payment.. Wich should be low. |

You can do that but it may be even more expensive since he will have to list you as a driver |

you must be down as a driver no matter how you do it but yes you can have the insurance in his name. the insurance will stil be high with you as a driver but you may save some |
