On Thursday, I was looking for parking at my schools parking garage. I found a spot, which was kind of small but I think I could make it. I really couldn't and ended up touching a persons car on the left back side with my cars right front side. I immediately backed up and looked to see if there was any damage. I didn't see any and I proceeded to find another spot, since there was 5 more cars waiting behind me.
Before you say this is a hit and run, the CA VC 20002 says that you should park in a space that does not impeded traffic. So when I parked I went back to the car and checked it and only saw some paint that had been scratched off. Nothing else-No Dents nothing.
I took an index card and placed it on the passenger side windows. Its been almost 8 days now and I haven't got a call back. I am thinking the index card might have fallen off.
What do I do? I am **** scared. How long should I wait, till I start to calm down, as in how long do these things take for the police to call me and stuff?
Please help
P.S-Since I panicked and there were other cars behind me honking at me to go forward, I forgot to take down the guys license plate. I also didn't inform the police as the damage seems to be less than $500 and I did technically leave a note, but what if the note fell off
Also-If it does become a hit and run case-How long does it take to get Summons to the court-1 Month, 2 months-1 year

It was NOT a hit and run. You left your info there, so therefore it's not. If the index card fell off, then tough luck. You are off the hook. Don't worry. The police won't call you IF you have insurance. The insurance company should take care of it. I hate to say this, but if you don't the victim can choose to press charges, which can vary and will be investigated. But if the person is nice,. they may just make you pay them without involving the police. Either way good luck. |

How old are you?
It's not a hit and run unless you left and didn't leave a note. If you scratched the paint and left a note, you did all you could. The owner probably got the note and decided filing insurance on a few paint chips was too big a hassle. Your responsibilities are over unless the owner does end up calling you, it's not like the cops are going to come and arrest you for it. Relax. |

If you're worried, just tell the local PD what happened. They'll look to see if anybody reported the damage. If nobody did, stop worrying. |

I agree with others about it not being a hit an run.
I suspect as someone else touched on.
He has looked at it and decided it was not worth the trouble.
Or maybe he has lodged a claim with his insurer and they will soon contact you.
Maybe on the day he saw that his car was not full with in his parking spot, it was foul of the next spot and it was this that contributed to the incident.
Either way sitting around pulling your hair out wont help. just relax and see where you end up.

If you left your insurance information on the card, I suggest you call your insurance company and see if anybody has filed a claim.
If nobody has filed a claim, you can rest easy!
You have done what you needed to do. You left a note, and even if somebody contacts you, your insurance company can note for you that you called wondering about the claim. It will be on file that you were not trying to run away.
No need to worry!
Even if you never left your insurance info, I still suggest you call them and inform. |

Don't worry. It's not hit and run if you leave information. If they lost your information, not your problem.
If it comes back stand up and take care of it. If not, go on your own way. |

I'm pretty sure a hit and run is when you run over a person and drive off, which you didn't do. You left your details and they still haven't called so I don't think they will. Chill out and move on. |
