How can I get a leased cars title If i owe money on it?

Ok i have been paying on a car for awhile now. I fell behind in payments after moving to a new state. The new state requires i have a copy of the title to get it registered. Now my problem is when i leased the car he didn't include a copy of the title and he will not send me a copy. I didn't notice not having the title upon leasing it as it was my first time. Is there anyway to get a copy from the state or anywhere or way else. I don't have the option to get caught up on payment atm and need the car for work and such.

ok i think i used the wrong word. It was financed by him not leased. I never recieved a copy of the title. The Dmv is saying i need a copy of the title.

California: Go to the DMV or AAA Auto Club with your old states registration and the car.
Your old registration will have listed on it who the legal owner is (which is your lender and your lender has the title) The DMV/AAA will contact them to issue a new title.
Fill out form REG 343 you can download at dmv.ca.gov
Get car smogged
You will get a new registration for your glove compartment.
You need to have the car physically inspected for VIN#, odometer, emmissions and safety stickers.
You will get new plates and tags.

you'll only get the title when the loan is paid off. you can get a copy of the registration from the DMV but tittle or pink slip as is commonly known is only released once the loan is paid off.

You NEVER own a leased car. You NEVER get the title, even after you pay off the lease. Lease means, long term rent. It NEVER EVER gives you ownership of the car. You have to BUY the car, to get the title.

Most of the time, you go to the DMV, and you tell them it's a leased car, and pay the fee for the new title in the new state. Then, they write to the owner of the car, and ask to have the old title sent directly to the DMV, and then the DMV will reissue a new title, and mail it back to the owner.

Some states - like Texas - you don't NEED to turn in the old title, you just need proof that you own - or are the legal lessee - of the car. You need to show them a copy of the lease.

If this is a "private" lease, between you and "some guy", then this isn't going to work. And you flat out won't be able to register your car in the new state. Because it's not yours.

What if I did all the payment of my loan. But still they don't want to release my pink slip for some charges that not included on our contract.. Can u please let me know what are the course of action to this matter..thanks
