There is no way to get a clear title once it has been salvaged. I have recently had experience with this. My husband is a salesman/finance manager of a car lot.My brother needed a reliable car and didn't have alt of money to get another one,my husband went to auction and found a 2003 Saturn view with forty thousand miles on it,we knew it had a salvaged title but didn't care because the car had been repaired at a Saturn dealership,we co-signed for the loan and three months later he stopped paying it,we repo'd the car and put it in the paper to sell it(he won't sell a car at his dealership with a salvaged title)as an individual you aren't required to inform a buyer that it has a salvaged title even though morally you should,at a dealership you must disclose it and it affects the amount you can charge for it,you will never get book value on a salvaged title car because a buyer will have trouble getting the same money for a car that has been wrecked versus one that wasn't.In less then a week we sold it for four hundred dollars more than we payed for it,had it not had a salvaged title we would have made several thousand dollars over what we payed. In the long run it usually isn't worth the problems that you have when you try to sell it or trade it in. |

In my state (Iowa) the title will always be a salvage title. Forever.
It really only affects your ability to trade in the car. |

Some states still do not show salvage on a title, and if a dealer was to title the car in one of those states, that title would not be branded salvage. The salvage history would still show up on a vehicle history report!
Unless you want to go through a lot of trouble for no good reason, you can not get the salvage brand to go away!! |

A car with a salvage title cannot be licensed to drive on public roads until it is repaired an passes a state inspection.

for an explanation of how it works in your state. Once a vehicle has been repaired and inspected by the state it can be titled as reconstructed. The salvage "brand" will remain on the title however. |

Once a vehicle is branded as "Salvage" it stays that way. The title will always say salvage. you cannot get it clean again. |

Some times you can but depends in your state and the reason why is salvage. My dad's car had a salvage title just because the engine broke down and the car stayed still for a while, but once he swaped a new engine in it and with all passed inspections he got the clean title back, he lives in KS. |

"No" you made a mistake.
You will have to drive the value out of it.
Hope that it was repaired by an independant body shop. |

Can I apply for the salvage title on my car on my own or must my auto insurance company do it for me? I live in New York state. The car belongs to me but they want me to give them my title before they pay me for the loss. I have already indicated I want to keep the car and would pay the salvage value. |
