How do I get auto insurance for my first vehicle?

I am eighteen years of age and have a car I am looking to purchase with the help of my parent. I am going to college soon and senior year is in full gear and providing my own transportation is a must now. How do I get insurance for my first vehicle? If I go purchase the vehicle(used) I can't drive it off the lot until I have insurance, but then again I can't get insurance until I register with an insurance agency. How am I supposed to go about this? Take in mind that I am only eighteen and this is a used car we are talking about. Thanks.

If your parent has you on their insurance and you purchase a vehicle you can use your parent's proof of insurance as proof that you have insurance. All insurance companies I have dealt with have what they call a Rider that when you purchase a different or additional vehicle that vehicle is automatically covered for a minimum number of days. Which gives you time to call them to add the vehicle of purchase insurance elsewhere. Your parent should call their insurance agent and ask if this would be the case for your situation.

If you are not listed on anyone's insurance policy then decide on the car you want. Place a deposit on the vehicle. Get the VIN number. Call around to different agents to get the best price. Go to the insurance agent's office. Get the new policy started, go pick up the car.

Does this parent your talking about not have a car/insurance? - You buy car - parent DRIVES new car home -- you drive your parents car home from dealer - because as a licensed driver that lives w/parent you are automatically covered in their car. (unless by amended policy - you have been excluded)
And when you get home w/new car - you call various Insurance companies - Stating that you need insurance- cause your going to be in a different city and now you're on your parents policy, but what to be on your own.
Call 3 or 4 companies and ask for rates - and pick one you like and your done.

Its simple. first call different agencies. geico,state farm, progressive, etc. get quotes. then whichever fits ur budget and which coverage is right for you you choose. next u put a downpayment most of the time and you just pay the monthly rates or by every 6 months. hoe this helps and good luck.
