hi i purchased a brand new truck back in 1997 from ford motor company the truck was paid a long while ago but ford motor company still is under the lien how do i change it to my name im solely the only owner but failed to change it awhile back...please, im in desperate need of help and need to sale the truck soon. Thanks a mil.

How do you know Ford is still listed as the lien holder? Do you have a title showing Ford as the lien holder ? If you do, the lien may have been satisfied and if it was, Ford should have sent you a separate piece of paper releasing the lien. In some USA states, the lien holder keeps the title til the loan is paid and when it is paid, will send the title to you. In other states, the car owner keeps the title but a lien holder is shown. When the loan is paid, the lien holder sends a lien release which should put with the title to prove the lien has been satisfied. In your case, I would call Ford and ask them to send you a duplicate copy of the lien release. I'll bet there really is no lien on the car |

Contact ford explaining the situation. Surely they must know that the truck is paid for, that is unless they used a finance company, in which case you will also need to know who they were and also contact them. The lien could have been transferred to them. |

Do you have the title in your possession? In some states the lien holder holds the title until the debt is satisfied, in others the vehicle owner holds the title.
If you hold the title, the vehicle will be titled in your name with Ford Motor Credit listed as the lien holder. You don't need to change the title, you simply need a lien release stating that FMC no longer has any interest in your vehicle. This signed document will become a part of the title work needed to sell your vehicle.
If you don't hold the title, contact your local DMV to see if the vehicle still shows a lien to Ford Motor Credit. If it does not show a lien, you will simply need to order a duplicate title. If the DMV shows a lien to Ford Motor Credit, you will have to contact Ford Motor Credit to get a duplicate title or at the very least a lien release from them so that you can apply for a duplicate title.

Look at the title. Normally it will say there was a lien on it but it will be canceled on the back. Check it closely. |
