I surrendered my plates about 3 months ago because I lost my job around that time and couldn't afford to pay insurance. It was due for an inspection soon anyway so it was time to stop driving. So its been sitting in my driveway for about 3 months and so... Now I decided I won't want to drive anymore because I am thinking of moving out of state . Now all I have to do is get a little tune up , get inspected and its ready for a new owner to take home. Question is, how do I sell this car if it has no insurance or license plate? Can I get a temp plates from dmv and return it after I sold the car?? any help would be appreciated . Thanks for reading

I'm sure about the state where you live, but I would think that as long as you have the title (proof of ownership) that's all you'll need. |

check with your local DMV regarding TRIP PERMITS. depending on your state, trip permits can be issued for one day or more, as example Oregon will issue a 21 day trip permit. Your state may require that you show a current drivers license and proof of insurance at the time the trip permit is issued. If you check with you insurance agent he may be willing to issue auto insurance to cover you for the duration of the trip permit.
You may be able to sell the car with out getting it tuned up. Most buyers will want to test drive your car, so you will need ins and a permit to allow them to drive it. |

Doesn't sound like you're in California, which is all I know...
But...
In CA, you can get two new plates with form REG 156 Application for duplicate plates and stickers. Cost is $18. They hand them to you.
If you don't want to drive or insure the car you can put it into NON OP or NON Use, depending on how long you'll have the car. Registration must be current to do this. You can download and print these forms at:
