How do I turn in my personalized license plates?

How do I turn in my personalized license plates?

I have a personalized CA license plate. I wish to exchange it for a NORMAL one with VLF's DOUBLING this year. Will I have to pay registration at my normal time, or when I give back my personalized plates? And will I get normal plates on the spot, or do I have to wait for those in the mail? Please advise!

The usual procedure is you fill out a new registration application form. On this form will be boxes to check asking If you own this car? also if the car is registered in your name. You would check these boxes. Also, It should have a box asking what you want to do today. Replace registration Items chk this box. Now, you'll have to pay for the transaction right then and now. You will also have to surrender your personalized plate. (Here in NY It has to be surrendered BEFORE they give you a new set)As far as any credit goes It varies by state. If you have gone 1 day into your registration year, your NOT getting a refund. Try and do this at the same time But make sure you surrender first because then if there IS a refund they would apply It to the new transaction. When done this way you WILL get new plates on the spot. Not Mailed. Good Luck
