How do i get a car from my parent's name to mine even thou they bought it for me?

She has to sign the title over to you and then you will have to send it off to have it re-titled in your name only. Insurance doesn't matter, if she bought the car then the law is going to look at who purchased it rather then who paid the insurance. She must sign it over. If any money is owed on the car then it must be paid off first.

If your mother is on the title, she has an ownership interest in the vehicle. There are only two ways to remove that ownership interest, and that would be for the person with the ownership interest to give up that interest (signing the title to you) or for a court to remove that person's ownership (which would only be done in a case of a seizure of assets to satisfy a judgment.

The person on the title is the legal owner. If there are two or more people, each owns an equal portion. There is no way for one owner to take ownership of the other person's portion.

This is not being a smart as$. The fact is that your mother will have to sign the title to you for you to remove her name.

The only way to transfer a car title is for the current owner or owners to sign it over to the next owner. You cannot do it without your mom's signature.

They can sell it to you for $1 then you can have the title in your name. You may have to pay the tax on the value of the car regardless of how much you actually paid them for it,.

By having the owner, your mother, sign off on the title as seller, and you signing on as buyer. Without her signature, you can't. And since you don't want to ask her to do that, I guess it will stay in her name forever.

You can, of course, give it back to her and buy your own.

Well since it's in their name you not going to do anything without their help. But you seem to think that is a smart *** answer but it is the correct answer. They have to sign off on the title or it is their car, not yours.

If you're the only one on the title it's already as official as it gets. If there's more than one person on the title they will have to sign it to release interest and you can take it down down to the DMV and get a title change to get one with only you named as the interest holder in the vehicle.

You will need to get the Vehicle registration document registered in to your name. Most insurance companies will insist that the Insurance Policy holder i.e. you, needs to be the registered keeper of the vehicle with the relevant licensing authority. If you are in the UK for example you would send the V5 registration document to DVLA Swansea and have the ownership registered in your name. This is free and just adds a keeper to the vehicle. You should get the documents from them and send it off. Similarly if you dont have the documents and own and are in possession of the car, you can apply for a document (for a fee) via a V62 form.
