Saturday night I went to my friends house because he was having a party. I told my mom while I was there that I wasn't coming home because I was drinking, which she's been perfectly fine with numerous times before. About an hour and a half or 2 hours later, my friends tell me that my parents are there & that my mom is screaming for me. I go out side, & I was pretty far gone at this point & ask what the "F" she's doing. she proceeds to tell me to get in the car, so I do, no fight, nothing. The next morning, my keys are missing & she told me I'm not allowed to drive my car anymore. I'm not allowed to drive to school, work, or anywhere. (Now, I work 30 hours a week at 18 years old AND go to high school, I drive 60+ miles a day) Now, Sunday night I came home from work & my car was parked behind every other car in the driveway with no tags left on it... the only thing that's in the way of me & my car/"freedom" is that my mom made herself the primary name on the car title & i'm secondary... i'm not sure what i can do to get it back & i guarantee she won't sign the title over to me

Have you thought about asking your Mom ? Your Mom "owns" you and can do anything she wants with you and/or your car. Give her my congratulations for doing the right thing. Using the "F" word with anyone is tacky at best and using it with your Mom is less than tacky. Grow up ! |

First, the legal age to drink is 21. So you can't obey the laws on that aspect. So maybe your Mom also thinks you will not obey the laws concerning a driver's license.
What would you rather have done- your Mom punish you by taking away your privilege to drive or end up in jail having your privilege taken away that way? That's all you have is a privilege to drive, no right to drive. At least your Mom can't issue you a citation & cost you money & points for doing something stupid like you did.
Too many times I've heard, I won't drive after drinking & too many times myself or another officer has knocked on the door of a teenager's home at 3 or 4 in the morning to tell their parents that their son or daughter was killed in a drunk driving accident & the underage teen was the one who was drunk. |

You say you're 18, so you can move out, and buy your own car. If you party and drink at age 18, your mother has rightfully decided she doesn't want to continue to enable that behavior. Good for her. |

And I guess your mom paid for the car, right? So, is it YOUR car or hers?
You are 18 and have the right to make your own decision... when you live in YOUR own place and pay your way. You can even continue illegal underage drinking, if you want...
Move out, buy a car and do whatever you want. |

Whose name was the car title in to start with? Either way, if the car was part yours or entirely yours, she can't just decide that she now legally owns the car or make herself the "primary" on the car title. |
