Hi, about a year ago a was in a car accident at a intersection, my light was green just going to yellow as i crossed the crosswalk when i noticed a car coming too fast to stop, coming from my left side, i tried to maneuver out of the way but the guy hit me right in mu rear driver side tire, blah blah blah.... well cops came and all, he said i ran the light, i said he ran it (he did) and we both have one other person in the car that was a witness to this. police says its default, no way to prove it, his own insurances company said the same thing when i asked them to pay for my damage, then the DMV suspends my licenses because of the accident until i pay his insurance company $6000..... now i have no licenses and no job, how do i fix this problem when it's not my fault????? plezz help ASAP.....

ok sorry i see i did not word is right, i was driving through a intersection on a green light then it changed to yellow as my car aproched the crosswalk (as normal) then the other guy runs a red light and hits me. the crash is not my fault.!

You are only partially correct.
Yes, you are not required to have auto insurance IF you can show proof that you are financially responsible to cover any damages if involved in a collision.
In this case, you have failed to have insurance & have failed to be financially responsible to cover the $6000 owed, so the DMV is within their right to suspend your driving privileges.
Obviously you are not financially responsible, so you need to go out & look for some cheap auto insurance before you're involved in another collision. You need to provide one or the other in WI, you can't just drive without insurance.

And if you entered an intersection on a yellow, the car that hit you had a green, you had a red. Yellow means the light is about to change, and if you are not already in the interestion, don't enter. Bottom line, your fault.
How do you get your license back? Easy enough. Pay $6,000 to the insurance company for the damage you caused, get a receipt. Then go to the insurance agent in your town, tell him you need insurance and an SR22 filing. Take the receipt and proof of insurance to the DMV and get your license back. |
