Im pretty sure i purchased it. Im financing the loan with capital one...would they have the GAP insurance information?

Will i be able to get the information using my car's VIN or even my driver's license?

No, your insurance agent will have all the information about your insurance, and what coverage you have. Call him and ask. |

The "gap" coverage would be through your insurance company, not the dealer. Its purpose is to help pay off the loan in the event of a total loss. It covers the difference between the outstanding loan amount and the value of the vehicle.
Capital One, huh? I had a bad experience with them. I will never go with them ever again; in fact, I hope they collapse in this economy, the sooner the better. |

You can not get it by the VIN of your car. You need to call capital one and they should have a copy off the original paperwork. You most likely bought your gap through the dealership (if you financed through the dealership) and they would also have that information. The dealership would also be the ones to refund it if that's what you're looking for. (I am a loan offier at a CU) |

You can't find out about it with your VIN or driver's license. You should have separate paperwork that was given to you at the time you purchased. Somewhere in your paperwork, you should have something that shows that you bought it and what you were charged for it. If you can't find it, call the Finance Manager at your dealer and ask.
Some dealers sell GAP coverage from independent companies (and get a commission for selling it). It sounds like this is what you think you bought. GAP insurance is also sold by some auto insurance companies, but this doesn't sound like what you bought.
GAP insurance is good to have if you have a long-term loan, or made a small down payment, or traded in a car with an upside down loan. |

Both Cap 1 and the dealership should have a copy. I believe dealers need to keep records for 3 years. |
