The Seller should give you the title to the vehicle and must be signed on Line 1a. If the model year of the vehicle is 1999 and newer, the Odometer or mileage section of the title must be filled out. You as the buyer must complete sections 3a thru 9a on the back of the title, with your name(last name,first name and middle name in that order), your address, Driver License number, transfer date, and purchase price. A Smog Check is required for a transfer, however, if a smog was done within 90 days of the transfer, then that smog will still be good and you do not have to get a new one. If not, the Seller is required to smog the vehicle before transferring/selling it. There is a standard transfer fee of
$15.00 plus sales tax( prevailing county tax rate where you reside). If registration is due then be prepared to pay that too. DMV now accepts Debit/ATM cards. |

You need the title, and bill of sale, the longer you wiat, the pentalies for not doing it in time escalate. The seller was to provide you a smog cert no older than 30 days old if the laws are the same as they were when I lived there. Not having one you will need to go pay for the test, and pay all the money to fix it if its broken, yes you can call them and tell they must do it if they did nto provide this. THe more your driving around in someone elses name the worst for you, and you cant insure a car you do not yet legally own, you can get quotes only. |

Call and get a quote from an Insurance company and buy insurance policy. Then Go to the DMV and fill out the paper work, pay registration fees. |
